Shed decided, that night, that she wouldnt leave. That she would stay in India, in Delhi, and belong as hard as she could. Joey is a Reality Controller, in charge of the livestream of a charismatic and problematic celebrity in smog-choked, water-short, ever-transforming Delhi - a city on the brink of revolution, under the shadow of multiple realities and catastrophes - at the end of the 2020s. When Joey impulsively rescues a childhood friend, Rudra, from his new-elite family and the comfortable, horrific life they have chosen for him, she sets into motion a chain of events a company takeover, a sex scandal, a series of betrayals that disintegrates not just their public and private selves, but the invisible walls that divide the city around them. To find the lives they need, Joey and Rudra must reckon with people and forces beyond their understanding, in a world where trust is impossible, popularity is conformity, and every wall has eyes.

This is definitely one of my favorites of the year. Set in a dystopic future of Delhi, India, we follow Joey, a Reality Controller of Flowstars (think all our social media combined on steroids), and Rudru, an old family friend she tries to help out. When the star she manages has a sexual scandal the book breaks open and shows us how there really is no longer a middle. You are someone who is pushing others to stay down so you are comfortable👇🏼

Reggie or you are trying make a difference for the better. The technology in here is creative and scary. I really enjoyed this. Here‘s a link to a charming interview with the author if anyone is interested. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_B-DU5v_hm0 4y
ValerieAndBooks Your review and the quotes you shared have convinced me to stack this!! 4y
Reggie @ValerieAndBooks there‘s this prize for literature in India called the JCB and there‘s this long list that I‘m gonna try to read this month. This was on it. In my 20s I went through an India phase, thought I‘d revisit it. Hope you like it! (edited) 4y

Andrew65 How are you going @reggie , are you recovering from your illness? 4y
Reggie @Andrew65 yes, I feel 100%, but am still in quarantine until Friday. Two Fridays ago was when it started. By Tuesday I felt well and by Thursday my sleep had been recovered. Just waiting to get tested this Friday to make sure I‘m negative. Thank you for asking. I feel extremely lucky to have gotten through so easy. And also, I had family here to help me with cooking and the such. Just real lucky. 4y
CarolynM I missed that you were ill, Reggie☹️ Glad to hear you're feeling better💐 4y
Reggie @CarolynM Thank you❤️. Right now I feel like a caged animal. I want to go out and do something but I have 4 more days to quarantine. On the bright side, I‘ve just been reading. So it‘s not that bad. 😊 4y

Reggie @readordierachel Me too. The writing is vibrant throughout the whole book. It can be overwhelming at times but totally worth it in the end. 4y
