I only really enjoyed 2 of the short stories. I'm happy to finally get this off my Kindle though! I got it for free through Amazon Crossings several years ago.

I think I downloaded this book for free on Amazon World Book Day a few years ago. Translated from Portuguese, all of these short stories take place in Brazil and feature love between women. There are no quotation marks, and at times the words read more like poetic musings than actual stories. While I appreciated the ideas here, it was hard for me to really connect with anything as is often the case with short stories. ⭐️⭐️/5

Just discovered this challenge so I‘m signing on a bit late! I‘ve already read quick a few LGBTQ books and authors in 2022. I think I‘m going to find some of these challenges hard though, I don‘t like to “read” audiobooks and don‘t get books from my library (does borrowing from a friend count?) @Kenyazero #LGBTQBookBingo #LGBTQ2022

I'm usually not one for short story collections. I feel like there is so much left unsaid. Some of the longer stories in this I enjoyed though. They all focus on some aspect of relationships between women. It was interesting to see some aspects of Brazilian culture that I didn't know a lot about before.

#LiteReads review for Marilia Wakes Up by Natalia Borges Polesso, translated from Portuguese to English by the author, is available! I really enjoyed getting to see an elderly sapphic relationship and the little moments in their lives, but I also personally found some moments to be on the ableist side, which lessened the story for me. Here is a recommendation for the upcoming Women in Translation month! It can be harder to find lgbtq+ representation in translated works, and this is a solid collection of short stories (sometimes very short, like 1-2 pages) translated from the Portuguese. All are slice of life and generally about relationships between two women.
