3.5⭐ The first half of this was really effective at showing how Emily got pulled into The Kingdom. I found the second half less satisfying as it felt disjointed and somewhat rushed, but overall this was a tough, unsettling and tense look at cults and how someone can get roped into that world. #ya

My husband and I exchanged our Jólabókaflóð books and I‘m very excited about the two I received!

I‘ll be preparing our annual indulgence of crockpot hot chocolate soon. Traditionally, we have watched It‘s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, but there might be a change of plans this year. My daughter and I discussed watching Zombieland: Double Tap instead. Nothing says “Merry Christmas” quite like the slaying of the undead, ya know what I mean? ?

A lonely college freshman in the 90s falls in with a Christian cult whose methods of manipulation become increasingly dangerous over the course of a mission trip to Italy. An intense psychological thriller. The last 15% slowed down a lot but tbh I liked that this book also dealt with the aftermath / recovery. And Moffett's inspiration for writing this book is really interesting. Highly recommend reading the Author's Note after.
