Pink Is For Blobfish
Pink Is For Blobfish: Discovering the World's Perfectly Pink Animals | Jess Keating
5 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
Pinkalicious meets National Geographic in this nonfiction picture book introducing the weirdest, wildest, pinkest critters in the animal kingdom! Some people think pink is a pretty color. A fluffy, sparkly, princess-y color. But it's so much more. Sure, pink is the color of princesses and bubblegum, but it's also the color of monster slugs and poisonous insects. Not to mention ultra-intelligent dolphins, naked mole rats and bizarre, bloated blobfish. Isn't it about time to rethink pink? Slip on your rose-colored glasses and take a walk on the wild side with zoologist Jess Keating, author of How to Outrun a Crocodile When Your Shoes Are Untied, and cartoonist David DeGrand. "Readers will never look at pink the same way." Publishers Weekly From the Hardcover edition.

Do you love weird animals? Me too! Discover amazing true facts about perfectly pink animals from all around the world in this playful #picturebook, suitable for all ages.

Centique Yes, yes, yes! I especially love weird sea creatures. I had the time of my life at the Monterey Aquarium on our US visit last year. I could watch sea horses and jellyfish for HOURs 😍 5y
Lindy @Centique I know it‘s available at Auckland Libraries 😁 5y

So much fascinating information in here! I learned that hippos ooze a thick pink oil that acts like an antibiotic sunscreen, and also that hippos can‘t swim. They can hold their breath up to 5 minutes while underwater, gracefully trotting along a river bottom on their toes.

saresmoore Fascinating! 5y
Lindy @saresmoore I think you and your daughters would enjoy this book. 😊 5y

Like many species of snails, nudibranchs are hermaphroditic. This means they have both male and female organs and can mate with any mature nudibranch of their species. Doubling your dating pool comes in handy when you live in a vast ocean, where fellow nudibranchs are hard to find!

DivineDiana Good point! 😀 5y
Lindy @DivineDiana Author Jess Keating has a wonderful sense of humour. 😊 5y
saresmoore Ha! I was really intrigued by the nudibranch as a kid. I think I did a report on it. 5y
Lindy @saresmoore I LOVE that. A weird animals nerd like me. 5y

Cute! I knew a few of these, but many were new to me. Informative and laid out nicely, this talks about some of the world's pinkest (and oft times, endangered too) animals. Fave is a toss up between the Hopkins' Rose nudibranch (a type of sea snail) and the pink fairy armadillo (pictured).
