Excellent start to this fantasy series, and this cover is gorgeous!

“You have power, my dear; everyone, even the tiniest otomys, has power. The trouble is we are all too quick to give it away.”

This was my #doublespin and my #pop22 39

I have always thought I just don‘t like fantasy. This book has proven that to be untrue. I don‘t like bad fantasy, but amazingly beautiful, intriguing, eloquent fantasy - I love! This book was amazing. Switching from perspectives worked for me as it helped to build intrigue. The world Amayo created was wonderful. The 3rd person displayed characters multi-dimensionally. I can‘t wait to read book 2. 🙂⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall, this was a very promising beginning! The writing was excellent, & the characters were engaging. The world-building was top-notch — the settings beautifully rendered with magic that felt authentic. The plot was a bit predictable though, & the pacing was bogged down by the back & forth between the two sisters POVs — I mostly only cared for Sinai‘s chapters, as Naala‘s story didn‘t really get going until about halfway through. ★★★☆☆.

I want this cover on a poster. Just wish I‘d loved the story inside a little more! It was definitely intriguing, and I really liked both MCs. They each had strong & unique personalities & I appreciated seeing them grow and deal with the struggles and dangers they each faced. Also loved the setting. But the world-building was a bit lacking, and the pacing is SO SLOW. Took way too long to get to the crux of the story. But still enjoyable! 3/5 ⭐️
