the concept is interesting. short chapters like diary entries. not great but will finish.

A coming of age story with an usual structure that sees short episodes told from toddlerhood to late 20s. I thought it had some bite and was pretty raw in its depiction of growing up. There were funny parts but also some sad parts. Not sure about the epilogue though either @CarolynM 🧐
Why is it that so many recent young-woman-comes-of-age novels feature MCs who can't talk about their feelings or seek help for their health problems, who are as fixated on bodily fluids as teenage boys & who only ever seem to have bad sex? I found this version of the story, told from the POV of the nameless MC, more convincing than others. She is a sympathetic character who genuinely matures over the 25yrs of the story.👇
This is billed as a raw, gritty, growing up tale. I could empathise with the MC, who was a bit of a loner, bullied and always just on the outside of everything. However it was a bit too ‘gritty‘ for me - too much sick, poo and blood and the sex scenes were weirdly gynaecological.
It was also told in the 2nd person, which didn‘t work for me.
On the plus side - another #bookspinbingo and it‘s taken my #netgalley to over 80% - yay!
