Some good short stories. I got this book over 10 years ago, feels good to have finally read the whole thing.

The short stories were good. I mean some better than others but.... I am not huge on short stories...

But... what I liked the most was the authors conversation regarding censorship...

The idea that people actually ban books is crazy! It‘s sad actually :/

This book (so far) have cute little short stories but... the authors talking about censorship and their past/current experiences with it have been very enlightening :)

Censorship tries to push certain topics or ideas #underground and there are a lot of good reasons to oppose it, but I think this is a particularly powerful one.

smilingshelves Appropriate quote to read today, since I just read Jacob Have I Loved by Paterson. Our fifth grade teacher used to read that one with his class years ago, but stopped when he got parent complaints. Although, I can see their point of view in fifth grade. That book might be more appropriate in seventh or eighth. But Paterson, like just Blume, doesn't shy away from telling it like it is for teenage girls! 6y
BucklingBookshelves @smilingshelves I‘ve been meaning to read her books! I think I‘d start with a new one I have The Flint Heart or her essay collections RAR keeps recommending! In a school, you definitely do need to be careful about the age/grade. And I don‘t think telling it like it is is a bad thing — even it it scares parents sometimes! And I‘ve heard Paterson has a lot more going on in her books than it might seem on the surface — I‘ll have to see for myself! (edited) 6y
