The poem 'The Whales off Whales' is simple but informational. The poem has a rhyming scheme every other line. This is good poem for any age because it is simple but has lots of information about a whale. The description of words in the poem help create a picture for the readers.

The poem 'I am a Baby Porcupette' is so cute and such an easy read. This poem is so simple yet has such descriptive words to paint a picture of how the porcupette is living. I would recommend this poem for elementary students because is short and cute and the students could relate to the animal and being young. There was some rhyming among the different lines but not too much.

Book of Animal Poetry! 🦒 This P, IR is a great information text option. I‘d recommend this to students of the higher elementary grades. This is a rather large book with tons and tons of longer or shorter poems about all types of animals! This is a great way to share the beauty of poetry while also sharing facts and information about animals! The UDL principle 3.3-guide information processing and visualization is a great principle for this book...

acassatta being that this book has information in the text and many visuals, it can assist in information processing and visualization. In addition, the ESOL strategy #9- teach note taking strategies would be great for this book. Any information that a student believes to be valuable can be jotted down as a learning activity. The following website includes information on the importance of implementing independent reading in your curriculum. 3y
AlexRobinson What a cute book!! I was unaware they made nonfiction poetry for animals and as someone who LOVES animals this would be a great book to look at! Due to the large amount of visual aid as well as informative text, the strategies and guidelines you chose as well as many other would be deemed appropriate! Great link on how to promote success with independent reading! 3y
PatriciaS I love animals and poetry and information so I know from your review 👍 I will love reading this book and use it with my students. 3y
DrSpalding Another fantastic general resource that reiterates the importance of independent reading. This was a great find! Students love animals and who doesn‘t love giraffes so you immediately are drawn in by the beautiful photographs! Quality non-fiction + poetry= awesome 😎 3y

There is a lot of imagery in this book, it explains how animals look and how they act. It also has examples of onomatopoeias when talking about how the animals sound or the sound of their actions.

I would use this poetry book, because it is very universal. Not only does the book incorporate multiple kinds of poetry, it also is very informational about wildlife. I could use this when discussing animals since it is information packed and perfectly portrays poetry.

I love with all my heart;
She gives me cream with all her might,
To eat with apple tart.“

Most of the pages have multiple poems about one animal on them. I liked this because then children can get a glimpse of what each animal does/looks like. I would definitely use this book in my classroom and have children do a project on an animal from the book.

I loved the concept of this book of poetry. I liked how there were poems about different animals. The poems talked about different aspects of each animal as well. This would be s great book for children because they could pick out an animal to read about.

Book of animal poetry published in ?? by many authors is a great collection of poetry. Not only does it cover specific animals, it touches on the life cycle of specific animals.

“There is danger where I walk.“

I wouldn't really use this in my classroom only because it uses big words and can be a little hard for young children to understand. It does have repetition which is a good indicator that something is a poem, but it does not rhyme which is what young children typically enjoy and how the understand better.

The poem I am reviewing is “Song of a Bear“ -A Navajo Poem- This poem is about a bear, and the illustration shows a bear and it's cub. The poem, I think, is about how bears are scary and a danger to other animals by them. It uses repetition but does not use rhyming words.

"The poems in these pages resonate with wonder at the variety, beauty, and strangeness of the animal world around us. As you read them, you may think, 'I never thought of a caterpillar, a starfish, or an elephant in that way before.' That's what all poets hope you will say after you have read their poems." - J. Patrick Lewis

It's not just the human world I'm enjoying on this journey!

My daughter loves ALL animals: the spider crawling up the bathroom wall, the family of skunks eating our blackberries at 8:30 in the morning, our neighbors dogs, and that baby porcupette!
