Shapeshifters
Shapeshifters: A History | John B. Kachuba
5 posts | 1 read | 8 to read
There is something about a shapeshiftera person who can transform into an animalthat captures our imagination; that causes us to want to howl at the moon, or flit through the night like a bat. Werewolves, vampires, demons, and other weird creatures appeal to our animal nature, our dark side, our desire to break free of the bonds of society and proper behavior. Real or imaginary, shapeshifters lurk deep in our psyches and remain formidable cultural icons. The myths, magic, and meaning surrounding shapeshifters are brought vividly to life in John B. Kachubas compelling and original cultural history. Rituals in early cultures worldwide seemingly allowed shamans, sorcerers, witches, and wizards to transform at will into animals and back again. Today, there are millions of people who believe that shapeshifters walk among us and may even be world leaders. Featuring a fantastic and ghoulish array of examples from history, literature, film, TV, and computer games, Shapeshifters explores our secret desire to become something other than human.

What book did you pick to read this month?

Who/What has been your favorite Creature we have read about this year?

#ParanormalLoveCrew #PLC

Bookworm54 I picked Fantasy Lover. It was really good :) I think my favourite creature we read this year was Gargoyle/Demon 4y
Mrs_B 1. I picked “Fantasy Lover“ - about halfway through and liking it so far!

2. I was pleasantly surprised by the Gargoyle category, although I think Dragon gave me my favourite book overall.

CoverToCoverGirl Hey, can someone tell me about the #ParanormalLoveCrew? Thanks! 4y
AsYouWish @CoverToCoverGirl Sure!!! Every month we have a theme and a group book or two that goes with that theme. For example, this month it is Shapeshifters so we have two paranormal romance books that are about shapeshifters. @AkashaVampie can probably give you more information and she has a link to the group on her page/profile. 4y
AkashaVampie @CoverToCoverGirl yes @AsYouWish is right. It is a paranormal romance book club. We do a different creature a month. I just recently made a website/page to show the info for my groups. It is in my info on my Litsy page. Feel free to check all of them out. Everyone is welcome. We would love to have u. 4y

Pickpick

Cultural history of shapeshifters, covering everything from werewolves and vampires through to tricksters and demons. As fascinating as it sounds. My only criticism is that it‘s too short!
