Dark Carousel
Dark Carousel: A Story | Joe Hill
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Joe Hill, "the best horror writer of our generation (Michael Koryta), returns with a brand new short story. A balmy summer night in 1994. Four teenagers out for an evening of fun on the boardwalk take a ride on the Wild Wheel an antique carousel with a shadowy past and learn too late that decisions made in an instant can have deadly consequences. What begins as a night of innocent end-of-summer revelry, young love, and (a few too many) beers among friends soon descends into chaos, as the ancient carousels parade of beasts comes chillingly to life to deliver the ultimate judgment for their misdeeds.

Very creepy. I love Joe‘s writing. The ending left me a little dissatisfied though.

Four young people visit a boardwalk amusement park one evening and their fun night becomes a nightmare. This one started out sort of slowly but really picked up in the last one-third. I ended up loving it. One of the rides at the park is dark and sinister and it goes very badly for the characters in this story. A quick read, a lot of fun. Hill‘s writing is very visual in this story which made the “horror” parts especially fun.

Love it! 👻💚 Joe Hill certainly follows in his father's footsteps with his ability to deliver such an amazing story in a limited number of words.

I have always loved carousels and the beautiful artwork involved with each animal. After reading this story, I will never look at a carousel the same again. Sooo creepy.
