Meet Me in Another Life
Meet Me in Another Life: A Novel | Catriona Silvey
A man and woman cross paths in different realities in this speculative love story that explores what truly defines us and how our choices can change everything--a stunning, affecting debut with the emotional resonance and imaginative flair of Kate Morton and Audrey Niffenegger. Is it possible to remember someone you've never met before? Thora and Santi are strangers in a foreign city when a chance encounter brings them together and intertwines their fates. Thora thinks she's finally found a kindred spirit with the same intelligence, offbeat humor, and desire to look up instead of straight ahead. But days later, Santi is cruelly taken from her in an accident. But this is just one of the many connections they share. Like two satellites trapped in orbit around each other, Thora and Santi meet again: as a nurse and dying patient; a teacher and prodigy student; a cynic and a believer. In numerous lives they become friends, colleagues, lovers, and enemies--but how and why? When ominous patterns begin to emerge and the lines between worlds blur, Thora and Santi come to a shocking revelation--they must discover the truth of their strange attachment before their many lives come to a final end. By turns joyful, devastating, and quietly profound, Meet Me in Another Life considers provocative questions about life and fate. Can we chart the course of our destinies? Do we control our choices--or do our choices control us? Catriona Silvey has created a spectacularly compelling page-turner filled with shocking twists that is also an affirmation of the timeless power of love to connect us beyond time and space.

What a story. This was an awesome and unexpected mixture of genre‘s. I loved it. A little bit magical realism, a little bit of a mystery, a little bit of a love story, a little bit science fiction.

This is me trying a genre that I usually don‘t like hoping for a different outcome and failing. If I liked the genre, this book would have been great. I just couldn‘t get there.

A slow burn in the first half that was at first frustrating but then forced me to slow down and not try to read it straight through. For me, going one chapter at a time with space between to absorb the events made a difference to my sense of the story. The book is 100% character development, and it's good. My heart was squeezed so tight throughout; my idea of connection is validated in this beautiful story.

This imaginative, genre bending novel is part love story (not necessarily romantic), part thriller, part drama and part science fiction. It does require patience to get to the big reveal and can be a bit repetitive but I mostly enjoyed the ride, it made me feel like I was going through multiple lives with endearing, memorable characters.

I really liked this, and it wasn‘t what I expected at all.

The twist was something I didn‘t see coming, such an original and cool idea. As Santi and Thora navigate through their many lives, they have to find the real meaning of their constant reincarnation.

As long as they find each other they‘ll be ok, such a sweet story about friendship, fate and learning to grow as a person in different stages of life.

Definitely recommend this one!

"These are the stars. This is your life. These were your choices."

I went into this thinking it would be a romance. It's not.

We meet Santi and Thora over and over again, every chapter a new life, a new way of knowing one another; as friends, colleagues, lovers, enemies.

I desperately wanted to unravel the mysteries of this and it gives it to you, slowly, until it smacks you in the face towards the end.

At first I was quite intrigued by this story but, sadly, I began to lose interest as it progressed. I think I was expecting more of a love story, perhaps a little like The Time Traveller‘s Wife. Although I enjoy a time travel tale, I‘m not a big sci fi fan. I appreciate the beautiful writing, though - it is without doubt wonderfully written and clever. This book has plenty of 5⭐️ ratings. It just isn‘t really my cup of tea. #Pigeonhole
