The Scorpion's Tail
The Scorpion's Tail | Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
8 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
#1 bestselling authors Preston & Child return with the next book in a series featuring archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson. After a shoot-out leaves a senior FBI agent gravely wounded, Corrie Swanson finds herself under investigation. Her supervisor assures her she's not to blame and the black mark on her record will be cleared in short order. But Corrie finds she cannot shake off an overwhelming feeling of guilt. As a distraction, she takes on a new case involving a fifty-year-old, mummified corpse discovered in a hidden enclave at High Lonesome, a long-abandoned New Mexico ghost town. Quickly out of her depth, she realizes she needs the help of her old enemy, archaeologist Nora Kelly. The two women soon uncover a startling truth: the deceased was poisoned, and died clutching a priceless artifact. Can the two women solve the mystery of the scorpion's tail? Or will they like others before them die in the attempt?

Pickpick

The second book of the Agent Corrie Swanson spin-off. Not to spoil anything, but Pendergast does make an appearance. Corrie & Nora end up teaming up again as they stumble across a legend of lost treasure near WSMC in New Mexico.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I think, after Relic, this was my next favorite Preston and Child. Though she can be annoying at times, I really like the Corrie Swanson character. And I hope we see more of the sheriff in future books.

There's a reason Preston & Child are my go-to when I want a fun mystery. They almost never disappoint, and this was no exception. I really like Nora and Corrie, and look forward to more in this series.

My goal for this year was to become a successful plant lady (after years of buying cute flowers and houseplants each spring and killing them before winter... 🤦‍♀️). I had sort of a restless, anxious day today, so I listened to most of the tagged audiobook (loving it!), puttered around with plants and accomplished nothing productive...
I'm getting to where I have as many plant pictures on my phone as book pictures!

monalyisha This is an accomplishment! Way to go! 💚 3y
LiteraryinPA That is totally exciting! They look like they are thriving! I made a similar resolution this spring. So far I have bought the pots and the soil and watched an online series about succulents… but not bought any plants yet! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y
Johanna414 @LiteraryinLawrence ok, but that still might be better than my process - which was go to Home Depot and buy a bunch of unlabeled plants. Then panic when I realized I had no idea what they were or how to care for them.... Librarian research mode took over, and now I just keep buying more lol 3y

Johanna414 @LiteraryinLawrence Plus, didnt I see a post earlier that you are moving? Moving with plants sounds difficult... 3y
RosePressedPages That‘s awesome! Your plants look great! I‘m also trying to become a successful plant lady but we‘ll see😅 3y
nanuska_153 I love plants but I suck a keeping them alive, so I have a huge respect for you and your endeavour, they look great!! I promised myself that I'd be better at it now that we moved to a house with a garden, but so far I only bought pink gardening gloves and watched my partner taking care of the plants 😅 3y

Mehso-so

This was overall just a meh. I love the Pendergast books and have read them all. This is a series with two characters from those books, Corrie Swanson and Nora Kelly. Although a fun read, its highly forgettable. Not sure if Ill continue these. It felt mailed in and that they authors were not totally invested.

Thank you so much @RedxoHearts for this great #bookcupidswap package. I ❤️ Preston & Child and am excited about this new series in the world of Pendergast. They seem to be going back to their archeological adventure mystery roots. 😁
I may have already eaten the Lindt bar. 😋
