A shortish, v gothic French tale by the author of Carmilla. Dude saves a beautiful woman and her awful husband from an old-fashioned scare. Dude becomes obsessed, casually follows her to Versailles where she tries to get claws in him, & he's staying in a room where 3 dudes vanished. Even though I figured out the mystery way before the main character did, I still enjoyed the setting & language. Plus, it's the first book I've finished with Serial!

I added a few titles by LeFanu tonight including this short novel. A wealthy young Englishman fresh from the Napoleonic Wars stumbles into a mystery when he unwittingly checks into the room that gives a haunted French inn its sinister reputation. LeFanu is known for his dark Gothic horror (see Carmilla) but this one is more of a mystery. Find it in the Added Recently section of the app!
