I did love the writing of this book and how it pulls you in. However I lost interest half way through a bit, too much back and forth had me a bit confused. I wish the ending could have been a bit darker and twisted. Decent read 3/5.

I freaking love her writing. The first paragraph reeled me in..
Loving this book so far!! And the mug that was given to me by my mom (not usually religious but this mug really spoke to me lately) and my usual hot cocoa before bed.
Can‘t wait to finish this book!

"Mom used to say that if you listen, people will tell you exactly how to hurt them. Because part of us wants to be hurt. We want to know how strong we really are."

I finally got my tree up! Now I'm getting some reading done by it ☺️
Whenever I think of #flawed characters that happen to be absolutely amazing, with a great writer and storyteller, Raeder (now Elliot Wake) comes to mind. Unteachable was the first book I read by this author, which was also the #debutnovel and I've been hooked ever since. Black Iris was a completely different story but so addicting. Both of the main characters are extremely flawed young women. #octophotochallenge #booktober
This book has a White Oleander kind of feel. It's dark, with characters focusing on drugs, sex, and revenge. I liked parts of it, hated some of it, and listening to the audiobook I got rather confused by the way the timeline was laid out. It is, overall, beautifully written though.
This book is a little difficult as an audiobook, because of the multiple "[month] last year" flash backs. I'd get confused during the first portion, though I'm about 70% through and now that more of the story is coming about its making more sense. I think I'd like it better had I read it.
Goodreads says there's a LGBT aspect to this story, so I'm in!
Raeder is the best at writing dark novels with flawed characters that you hate and love at the same time. This story is complicated and full of twists and so damn sexy. I love Raeder's style. She is unapolagetic when it comes to delivering dark storylines.
