American Serial Killers
American Serial Killers: The Epidemic Years 1950-2000 | Peter Vronsky
3 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
"Fans of Mindhunter and true crime podcasts will devour these chilling stories of serial killers from the so-called "surge" or epidemic years of serial murder. With books like Serial Killers, Female Serial Killers, and Sons of Cain, Peter Vronsky has established himself as the foremost expert on the history of serial killers. In this first definitive history of the worst decades of American serial murder, when the number and body count of serial killers exploded, Vronsky tells the stories of the most notable and unusual serial killings from the 1950s to the early twenty-first century. From Ted Bundy to the Golden State Killer, our fascination with these classic serial killers seems to grow by the day. American Serial Killers gives true crime junkies what they crave, with both perennial "favorites" (Ed Kemper, Jeffrey Dahmer) and many fascinating lesser-known killers such as Melvin Rees, Harvey Glatman and Danny Rolling"--

This true crime read focuses on what is rather darkly deemed “The Golden Age of Serial Killers” from 1950-2000. Vronsky provides the numbers of killers in decade increments & then goes into the specific details of some of the cases. While some killers/victims will be more familiar than others, many were completely unheard of to me. It‘s a chilling read that takes larger societal issues & ties them to the creation of these real-life monsters.

Some people read romance, some thrillers... the real MVPs read about MURDER 😎😎 #poolside

FlowerFairy Have spent the day doing housework and listening to true crime podcasts. 🙌🏻 3y
TheRomantiCate @FlowerFairy that is truly the best time to listen to them! What podcasts do you listen to?? 🤓🤓 3y
FlowerFairy I started back in 2016 with My Favorite Murder, but haven‘t listened to that in ages. I like Morbid, Case File, True Crime Garage and Generation Why. Which do you enjoy? 3y

TheRomantiCate @FlowerFairy I listen to My Favorite Murder but I‘m terribly behind. I also like Morning Cup of Murder.. it‘s like a today in history thing. And Female Criminals from Parcast... 3y
FlowerFairy Ooo! Had not heard of Morning Cup of Murder! Will add that one to my list. Thank you! I have a fairly long work commute and frequently listen to podcasts. 3y
TheRomantiCate @FlowerFairy yeah Morning Cup has an extensive backlog and the episodes are just about 10-15 minutes... 3y

I just saw the tagged book on Magic City Books IG & figured a few of my fellow murderinos would be intrigued. I couldn't help but think of the serial killer collage sweatshirt that I saw someone wearing once. In public. 😂

Libby1 An old work colleague of mine once went on a blind date with John Wayne Gacey. 😱 3y
vivastory @Libby1 Seriously?! That's scary! And wild! I live in KC & it was pretty surreal to be here when BTK was arrested. 3y
sarahbarnes You are braver than I am! 😳 3y

LeahBergen That sweatshirt in public? 😂😂😂 Oh, my God! 😂😂 3y
LeahBergen @Libby1 Noooo! More details, please! 😮😮 3y
Libby1 @vivastory and @LeahBergen - I worked at a library when I was a teenager & one of my older coworkers had been set up on a date with Gacy in the 70s. I think they only went out once, and if I remember correctly it‘s because she thought he was “weird”. How right she was. The murders happened not far from where I grew up, and the story is absolutely appalling. I can‘t believe there are still a number of his victims that haven‘t been identified. 😢 3y
LeahBergen @Libby1 That‘s horrifying! I can only imagine how “weird” he must‘ve seemed. I watched an interesting documentary interview with his sister; she and his mother were oblivious to it all (as so often happens). 3y
