This One Sky Day | Leone Ross
6 posts | 3 read | 9 to read
Dawn breaks across the archipelago of Popisho. The world is stirring awake again, each resident with their own list of things to do: A wedding feast to conjure and cook An infidelity to investigate A lost soul to set free As the sun rises two star-crossed lovers try to find their way back to one another across this single day. When night falls, all have been given a gift, and many are no longer the same. The sky is pink, and some wonder if it will ever be blue again.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

Eventually, when civil war had raged for far too many years to be sensible, the earth and the sky... took action. Together they produced a furious and very sudden hurricane, which came down on everybody at 3.07 p.m. one clear-sky day...Former enemies took refuge together for three whole weeks while it danced outside, ripping up the land so nobody could have it. Very different people were forced to listen to each other, and to work to survive.

Well, that was some weird s***, right there! All of the inhabitants of Popisho have a cors, a magical gift which could be wings, or to know when someone is lying. One of the MCs is a macaenus, which means he knows what everyone needs to eat & can flavour food with his hands.

With me so far?! Well, then it just gets REALLY bizarre from there on in. Spoiler below!

Last on my #womensprize list so far, even though I *had* to read to the end.

squirrelbrain All of the women‘s ‘pum-pums‘ fall out 😲. Yes, I do mean vaginas just dropping onto the floor. Also there‘s some *quite* explicit sex. 2y
Ruthiella The synopsis puts me off but other readers‘ enthusiasm makes me want to give it a whirl! 🤔 2y
squirrelbrain It‘s a strange one @Ruthiella - not my usual cup of tea at all but I strangely liked it! 2y

Such a lovely day today, I‘m starting this book outside in the sun, with the pup.

Not sure how I‘ll get on with the book as I‘m not a fan of magical realism but I‘ll give it a go!

My #weeklyforecast is simple: I‘m currently reading Popisho by Leone Ross (in the tag is UK title) and A Burning by Megha Majumdar. Two books till Tuesday and since Tuesday, when Booker Longlist will be announced, my reading will depend on the jury and their reading taste.

Cinfhen Ohhhhh, you must be excited!! Any long list predictions?? Or hopefuls?!?? 3y
Cathythoughts Booker Longlist ! I can‘t believe a year has passed again 3y
TrishB @Cathythoughts that‘s just what I was thinking! 3y

Nute It‘s incredible that it is already time for the announcement of the Booker Longlist! 3y
BarbaraBB Looking forward to Tuesday too! 3y
Simona @Cinfhen I‘m very excited indeed! I don‘t have any predictions, because I usually read too few new published books, but I see over and over again on different sites praising reviews for … story about racism (I will post my review later today or tomorrow) and The Magician by Colm Toibin, fictional portrait of Thomas Mann. 3y
Simona @Nute @TrishB @Cathythoughts I‘m glad for new longlist, but I‘m not happy to see how times flies. 3y
Simona @BarbaraBB Planning to read the longlist? 3y
BarbaraBB I don‘t think so, a selection probably. 3y
Cinfhen I‘ll be reading and following your Booker journey xxx 3y
