"In a suburban LA neighborhood, a group of neighbors keep wary distance and at times collide, propelled by loneliness, desire, fury, and sorrow. Precocious Korean American sisters Mira and Rosemary find their world rocked by a suicide; a charismatic and creepy drama teacher grooms his students; an aging gay horror novelist fights loneliness; and a white mother and her adopted Vietnamese daughter deal with lifelong anger issues. Spanning decades, and bringing together a diverse and interlocking group of stories, Lurkers is a Los Angeles masterpiece, showing Sandi Tan's fiction to be as formidable and exciting as her filmmaking"--

Mehso-so

This is about a group of people who live on Santa Claus Lane in a North of Los Angeles neighborhood. It starts off with a suicide of a Korean immigrant husband and father of two. The wife has never learned English all that well and doesn‘t know how to drive. There is a woman from the Midwest who in her loneliness adopted a Vietnamese baby from operation baby lift for companionship. That little girl grows up lonely. There is a retired gay 👇🏼

Reggie author who wrote horror novels whose hope was attracting boys but was disappointed to find out boys would rather play video games than read. There is a gay acting straight man, drama teacher who is grooming two students. All of these characters were salacious and I kept reading hoping people would get closure but the book left off so open ended with nothing but hurtful messages. The author had all the raw material but a good book it did not👇🏼 (edited) 4y

Avanders Sounds no good 😖 4y
Reggie @Avanders I didn‘t bail which is what it had going for it but man, everyone is either horrible or in a horrible place. 4y
Avanders Eesh. It also sounds frustrating and I would be so disappointed with the “nothing but hurtful messages.” It seems maybe you are a teeny bit generous with your so-so rating 😉 4y
