I enjoyed learning a piece of North Carolina, American, and women‘s history I did not know. The accomplishments of Josephine Leary in the post Reconstruction South are nothing short of astounding.

I absolutely bought this book for it‘s GORGEOUS cover and while I found the book a quick read, it lacked the “sparkle” that the cover projects. This is an historical reimagining of Josephine Leary, an emancipated slave who went on to become a leading real estate owner in 1800‘s North Carolina. Unfortunately the book lacked real depth or insight, which is a shame because Josephine was quite an amazing woman. #MoreMehThanYeah

Okay. Anyone else read a line in a book and a song so far off from that book starts playing in your head? Eminem, you don't belong in this story! ?
I hope they keep this cover it is lovely.
