Battle of the Linguist Mages
Battle of the Linguist Mages | Scotto Moore
5 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
In modern day Los Angeles, a shadowy faction led by the Governor of California develops the arcane art of combat linguistics, planting the seeds of a future totalitarian empire. Isobel is the Queen of the medieval rave-themed VR game Sparkle Dungeon. Her prowess in the game makes her an ideal candidate to learn the secrets of power morphemesunnaturally dense units of meaning that warp perception when skilfully pronounced. But Isobels reputation makes her the target of a strange resistance movement led by spellcasting anarchists, who may be the only thing stopping the cabal from toppling California over the edge of a terrible transformation, with forty million lives at stake. Time is short for Isobel to level up and choose a sidebecause the cabal has attracted much bigger and weirder enemies than the anarchist resistance, emerging from dark and vicious dimensions of reality and heading straight for planet Earth! At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Excuse???????

Between watching all available Mythic Quest last month and starting this book today I am getting a weirdly high level of MMO content. MMOs: games I am too anxious to play!

DrexEdit Oh I have this one checked out from the library. One of these days I will actually get to read it! I am looking forward to it. 2y
khooliha @DrexEdit It's real weird so far! 2y

Bailedbailed

I completely misunderstood what this book was about. Turns out, it's Ready Player One updated to modern pop references. The best neutral review I'm seeing for this states "it's both weird AND all over the place." If that's your cup of tea, more power to you. I bounced at page 3.

julesG Agree 100%. I forced myself to finish it, I had an ARC 2y
esurient @julesG That's dedication! I'm going to go reread "Story of Your Life" (Chiang) and Alphabet of Thorn (McKillip) for something more along the 'exploration of language and personhood' I had been hoping for. 2y
julesG And I'll be adding those two to my TBR. 😉 2y
esurient @julesG Haha, I hope you enjoy them! 2y

wanderinglynn That‘s disappointing. 2y
JoyBlue Rats! It looked promising to me, too. I was skeptical about the length. I'm all for long books IF the story is interesting enough to merit the length. I just started it. Thanks to your full review, I'll know that if I'm debating bailing, I should just do it. That is, I'm going to try to read it, but I won't hold on if it starts being problematic for me or I lose interest. 2y
julesG @JoyBlue 🤞🏻 you might like it. 2y
JoyBlue @julesG Alas, by 13% in it was clear that I had reached my limit. Then, I got 14% into another book on which I‘ve decided to bail. It has not been a good reading day for me. So it goes…. 2y
julesG @JoyBlue I have had similar days. It happens. Better luck with your next read. 2y

Whoops. Intended to take a picture of the honey toast I had this morning. (organic wild bee honey from the hive my daughter persuaded me to adopt)

Anyway, started a new ARC!

#NetGalley #ARC #MountARC

PS: used my son's new favourite mug. He's not at home, he'll never know. Unless he logs onto Litsy. 😁

thegirlwiththelibrarybag This sounds delightfully strange - look forward to hearing what you think. Mmm - honey toast is one of the best smells, I think ☺️ 3y
Nute Yay, Snoopy! Love the mug! 3y
