I was hoping this book would‘ve taken a darker turn, but I felt like it went on too long and didn‘t deliver on what I was looking for. There are themes of generational trauma, superstition, ghosts—but this just wasn‘t what I was expecting.

I really really really wanted to like this one but just couldn‘t seem to care about any of the characters. What I did like was the gothic atmospheric vibe and that was pretty much it. #TeamMonsterMash #bookspin #Scarathlon @StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks
Mara Wilson's great audiobook narration can't save this book for me sadly. Something about it isn't grabbing me and it feels unbearably slow. I'm curious to know how it ends so if anyone wants to jump in and spoil it, let me know! Queer ocean horror gothic sounded right up my alley, but alas.
This multigenerational story covers one family in Cape Disappointment, WA. Switching between generations, along the matrilineal line, this family of mothers and daughters are cursed with early deaths and a strong tie to… something… in the water. This makes for a unique and watery read that is perfect for a creepy beach read!
