The Keepers of Metsan Valo
The Keepers of Metsan Valo: A Novel | Wendy Webb
4 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
The spirits of Nordic folklore come calling in this entrancing tale of family secrets and ancient mysteries by the #1 Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Haunting of Brynn Wilder. In Metsan Valo, her family home on Lake Superior, Anni Halla's beloved grandmother has died. Among her fond memories, what Anni remembers most vividly is her grandmother's eerie yet enchanting storytelling. By firelight she spun tall tales of spirits in the nearby forest and waters who could heal--or harm--on a whim. But of course those were only stories... The reading of the will now occasions a family reunion. Anni and her twin brother, their almost otherworldly mother, and relatives Anni hasn't seen in forever--some with good reason--are all brought back together under one roof that strains to hold all their tension. But it's not just Annie's family who is unsettled. Whispers wind through the woods. Laughter bursts from bubbling streams. Raps from unseen hands rupture on the walls. Fireflies swarm and nightmares stir. With each odd occurrence, Anni fears that her return has invited less a welcoming and more a warning. When another tragedy strikes near home, Anni must dive headfirst into the mysterious happenings to discover the truth about her home, her family, and the wooded island's ancient lore. Plunging into the past may be the only way to save her family from whatever bedevils Metsan Valo.

Honestly wasn‘t sure what to expect with this one. It was recommended by Book Riot #getTBR

This is magical realism, small town, family, folklore book. I discovered afterwards that the author basically writes all her books in this small town and you can discover some characters in her other books, which I love and I‘ll have to check out.

Thoroughly enjoyed this atmospheric novel which also incorporated supernatural elements and folklore. The characters were realistic while the story was dark and mysterious. Would definitely like to read more from this author as I got on well with her writing style

jlhammar The Fate of Mercy Alban and The Tale of Halcyon Crane are my favorites of hers, I think. I still need to get to this one. Looking forward to it! And we have this new one coming soon. 2y
Cazxxx @jlhammar Quite a few of her books are on kindle unlimited, definitely will read some more from her. Love to find new authors 😁 2y

Life is good. So was #20in4 . My goal was 13 hours of reading I hit 15:04. I am happy with that. Now, of my 10 and 13 yr old could find a way to get along the chances of me reaching 20 hours would be phenomenal. #HappyReading Litsy friends.
P.S. The Keepers of Metsan Valo was not what I expected but it is a solid 4⭐️

Reading a supernatural story while writing a ghost story… I am only a few chapters in, but already enjoying the mood and setting… #spooky #supernatural #horrorwriter
