Back to Earth: What Life in Space Taught Me about Our Home Planet--And Our Mission to Protect It | NICOLE. STOTT
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Inspired by insights gained in spaceflight, a NASA astronaut offers key lessons to empower Earthbound readers to fight climate change When Nicole Stott first saw Earth from space, she realized how interconnected we are and knew she had to help protect our planetary home. In Back to Earth, Stott imparts essential lessons in problem-solving, survival, and crisis response that each of us can practice to make change. She knows we can overcome differences to address global issues, because she saw this every day on the International Space Station. Stott shares stories from her spaceflight and insights from scientists, activists, and changemakers working to solve our greatest environmental challenges. She learns about the complexities of Earth's biodiversity from NASA engineers working to enable life in space and from scientists protecting life on Earth for future generations. Ultimately, Stott reveals how we each have the power to respect our planetary home and one another by living our lives like crewmates, not passengers, on an inspiring shared mission

So I read zero of my #Roll100 books in July. Sometimes you just need a break from a challenge. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That said, this month I‘m very excited for all the audiobooks (squares), and I‘m hoping to get to one print (rectangles) around Camp Litsy and my goal to read more short stories.

Nicole Stott was an astronaut and engineer with NASA for 27 years. These are the lessons she‘s learned about how we need to care for our planet.

I love memoirs of returned astronauts, with such unique perspectives. And I really enjoyed this one. She‘s got a fun style. This was less memoir than I expected, but still a valuable resource for anyone who wants to be more mindful of living and caretaking of our homes, communities, & planet. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

One of my NY‘s resolutions is to read more nonfiction. So I‘m outsourcing books for this goal! ❤️❤️

1. Space travel! 🚀
2. I want to know everything. What kind of person looks up at the dark, cold emptiness and says “yes, I want to go there.” How it works. What scientists are hoping to find. EVERYTHING. 🌌
3. Books by astronauts are always fascinating!

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and don‘t forget to tag me! 💙🚀💙

tokorowilliamwallace I thought this one on the search, selection, and training of the astronauts in the 50s and 60s was very informative and worth the read. It was one the first audiobooks I listened to. 2y
