I want to say I started this around the first of the year. I‘m about halfway though. My reading has been off the last few months. I couldn‘t get into anything. Maybe I will finish this one this month.
It‘s information packed, not sure if it‘s interesting information or just book filler. I‘m going to keep reading because I want to and I‘m interested.

The eldest daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt, Alice was not necessarily #americassweetheart ...her causes and beliefs stirred controversy. I‘ve wanted to read the tagged book. She sounds like she had spunk and refused to be silent! #getmovin

I completely missed the #royalwedding , but I love seeing the pictures everyone is posting!!

Even though Alice Roosevelt Longworth was an intriguing person, parts of this biography were surprisingly dull. The author also had a tendency to analyze and make assumptions about Alice's (and others') feelings that were not backed up by evidence. In spite of that, I enjoyed learning about Alice's life, and even though at times she was not likeable and I disagree with some of her political views, I do admire her.

Kaye Good review. Have you read Hissing Cousins ? It‘s very good and goes into lots of detail about the relationship of Alice and Eleanor. 6y
rubyslippersreads @Kaye That's on my TBR list. Wasn't it Alice who said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me"? ? 6y
Amie @Kaye yes, I've read that one, too. It seems like Alice was very critical of FDR and ER but was also fiercely loyal to family and didn't like if someone else said something bad about them 😃 6y
Amie @rubyslippersreads according to this bio, a friend gave her a pillow that said "If you haven't got anything good to say about anyone come and sit by me" and the book says "She adopted it as her signature statement." ? There's even a picture of her with the pillow in the book. 6y
Kaye Yea, I didn‘t find Alice to be a very nice person. Couldn‘t understand her nastiness to Eleanor. 6y

I'm so glad I have today off work and don't have to go out in the very cold weather! The cat and I are very much enjoying snuggling on the couch and reading all day. I started this biography of Alice Roosevelt Longworth back in October and I'm trying to finish it by the end of the year. Only 4 more chapters to go!

#itshistory #anditsaugust @RealLifeReading

This has been on my TBR since January. I had it checked out from the library for several months and then just ended up buying a used copy. I'm hoping to get to it this month.

Alice is hanging out on this bookshelf with one of my favorite historical fiction characters: Phryne Fisher. I think the two would get along well 😀

SharonGoforth Ooh this is a good one!! 7y
SaraRosett FYI...There is fiction mystery series about Alice Roosevelt-- 7y
Amie @SaraRosett I read that book and it's the reason I went looking for a biography about her 😃 7y
SaraRosett @amie Interesting! I've read that Alice was quite a character in real life but haven't read a bio yet. 7y

I 💕❤️💕political history! This is a representation of what's on my shelves. And if you haven't read it, the book I tagged is a fantastic biography of TR's oldest daughter, Alice Roosevelt Longworth. I highly recommend it. What a fascinating woman she was! #augustbookchallenge #augustofpages #day11 #politicsandbooks

Pinkmeghan Have you read Hissing Cousins? I adore Alice and am fascinated by her relationship with her cousin Eleanor! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Holy stacks! 8y
SharonGoforth @Pinkmeghan No, I haven't, but I will put it on my list! 8y

SharonGoforth @CherylDeFranceschi Those are just the ones that were in easy reach😀 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Excellent! I'm adding this one! I read The Bully Pulpit earlier this year and Alice always made a big impression even though she only appeared a few times in the story. 8y
BookishFeminist YESSSSS political book buddies ❤️ one of my favorite & most owned topics too! 8y
SharonGoforth @Riveted_Reader_Melissa With all the Doris Kearns Goodwins I have, I can't believe I haven't bought The Bully Pulpit yet😬. Another one for the stacks! 8y
SharonGoforth @BookishFeminist Yes!!! 😊💕😊❤️😊! Thanks for the recommendations! More to add to my list! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @SharonGoforth I highly recommend it! It was actually my first Doris Kearns Goodwin read and I really enjoyed it. There were so many parallels with that first populist, progressive movement to the current one, especially early in the primaries. And the side stories about the families were great too. I added all her other books to my TBR list when I finished and already bought two of them. 8y
SharonGoforth @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thanks so much for the recommend! I've added it to my TBR, and am going to check library availability now😀 8y
