This is an autobiography of Janet Frame, a great NZ author who struggled with mental illness in the 40s and 50s. Although she wasn‘t on lithium to my knowledge I thought you‘d be interested to know she was scheduled for a lobotomy 😨 It was cancelled when her first collection of short stories won a prestigious award! If you‘re not up for the book there is an amazing movie of it from 1990 that won a lot of awards.
BookHermit Love this book and the Jane Campion movie and Janet Frame. Thank you for reminding me if this wonderful and fascinating poet. 7y

Centique @BarbaraBB @cinfhen very sad but she did go on to have many good times with friendships and mentors and creating great works - so more hopeful than some artists lives. Thank goodness! 7y
