My 2nd of 2023! 5 strangers have someone taken from them and they‘re instructed via an anonymous text to play “the game” & there can only be 1 winner. I wasn‘t sure what to expect going into this in terms of how it would all come together, but was surprised enough when it was revealed. This has some twists in it & shows how we‘re all dependent on technology & makes us conscious of what we put out there. I would read another book by this author.

Acroas 3 countries, 5 strangers receive a chilling text message... The person you love is most in danger. To save them, you must play The Game. Interesting twist but not as gruesome overall as I had anticipated, though it was disturbing at the end...

5 strangers receive a mysterious text telling them that a loved one is in danger & the only way to save them is to “play The Game“. If they don't follow the instructions, their loved ones will die.

I was intrigued by the synopsis, & although the concept is great, I was expecting more of a contest-type game. I thought it was a gripping read, but overall, I feel it was a bit of a mixed bag but worth reading if you enjoy tense thrillers. 3⭐

OutsmartYourShelf My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, HQ, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

TW: animal death (I wish authors would not kill pets in their books, especially not big cuddlebug German Shepherds like Duke), homophobia, kidnapping, sexual assault, violence.
