Potato and cured, smoked herring salad. With raw beetroot juice. Not an imaginative menu, but very local to the North of France and all I could bear given the temperature!

Texreader That is an unusual dish. I tried pickled herring while visiting my mother in law in Norway. Not really my thing. 2y
Dilara @Texreader LOL I love it, but it certainly is an acquired taste, which is why there is herring on one half of the dish only 😋 Although I'm not sure Norwegian pickled herring is the same as what's on the picture. Mine is salted, then smoked, then preserved in oil with bay leaf, thyme, onion and peppercorn. 2y

A local Northern menu in Audresselles, a fishing village specialising in crabs and mussels.

Mussels and chips (fries)
Whole crab
Scallop gratin
Cod
Herring (cured and preserved in oil) and potato salad
Chef's salad
Potchevlech (a type of stew with various meats)
Steak of the day
Fisherman's platter (whatever that is!)
Seafood platter

Dilara The restaurant came highly recommended, but when I first looked at the menu, I was disappointed because I thought it was rather unimaginative. In the end, it didn't matter because the food was very fresh and well-executed. Simple and tasty! 2y
Catsandbooks Sounds great! 2y
Texreader Thanks for translating! I‘d love to try it! 2y

As I had a week's holiday in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in Northern France a couple of weeks ago, I've decided to focus on this area for this month's #FoodandLit. I would have felt a bit silly doing a generic French food/lit because I'm French: I cook French food and read French books regularly. This way, I'll get to explore the literature of a region I haven't read much from.

#France

Dilara I'm quite familiar with Northern food culture though, because my mum's family are originally from there. I'll see 2y
Texreader How absolutely exciting!! If you get a chance would you post some photos from your trip? 2y
Dilara @Texreader Your wish is my command! Although they're going to be generic-ish seaside pictures. 2y
