The author‘s main goal is to advocate for later school start times for high school students. She starts out by clearly stating this. She goes on to provide a lot of research and great factual information about teenagers‘ sleep. Then she discusses strategies that might be helpful. This is again a lot about school start times. I appreciated the research but the main emphasis on school start times was just too repetitive for me.

LitStephanie I was an extremely sleep deprived teen, and it had nothing to do with what time school started. That does sound too simplistic. Sleep trouble is extremely complicated. 3y
Daisey @LitStephanie It did include a really good section of research about amount of sleep and changes in timing of alertness/tiredness for teens, but I was hoping for much more in the suggestions section. I agree that the issues are much more complex. 3y
Goleemn I‘m a high school teacher and every single student has said if school started later, they would stay up later. It‘s a balance and far more complicated than just “start later.” We start at 8, and that seems doable for almost all our kids. 3y
Daisey @Goleemn I teach middle school and hear a lot of the same. Apparently the research shows that there is at least a slight average increase in sleep time if start times are later, but I agree it‘s more complicated. 3y
