Paths of the Dead
Paths of the Dead | Lin Anderson
3 posts | 2 read
Paths of the Dead is the thrilling ninth book in Lin Anderson's Rhona MacLeod series. When Amy MacKenzie agrees to attend a meeting at a local spiritualist church, the last person she expects to hear calling to her from beyond the grave is her son. The son whom she'd only spoken to an hour before. Then the body of a young man is found inside a Neolithic stone circle high above the city of Glasgow and forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod is soon on the case. The hands have been severed and there is a stone in the victim's mouth with the number five scratched on it. DI Michael McNab is certain it's a gangland murder, but Rhona isn't convinced. When a second body is found in similar circumstances, a pattern begins to emerge, of a killer intent on masterminding a gruesome Druidic game that everyone will be forced to play . . .

EadieB This book is completely different than the other books in the series. It feels like I'm reading a different series. McNab seems to be the interest in this book. I'm not sure where this series is going but I'm not sure that I like it. It was a bit boring at times and a bit too long. Hopefully, the next book will be better. 2y
Tove_Reads Yup. I see I have chosen pick, must have pressed wrong. Was not exactly a good read. 2y

EadieB @Tove_Reads No I agree! 2y
Tove_Reads I will read the next one now, and sadly the description sounds like “no, not this again”. Doesn‘t sound like I will enjoy it. Let‘s hope I‘m wrong. 2y
EadieB @Tove_Reads It seems to be going into witchcraft! 2y
Tove_Reads Sadly. Weird. The series stated out great. Then she added more pages, which the books didn‘t need, and then weird subject. Also, less about Rhona, and I find her to be a good character. 2y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I like Rhona too. She definitely started out great but seems to be going in a different direction now! 2y
TheAromaofBooks I'm always sad when an author takes a series in what feels like a completely different direction. Why not just start a new series?? 2y
EadieB @TheAromaofBooks That‘s so true! 2y
Andrew65 These are becoming a bit more marginal reads. 2y
EadieB @Andrew65 You're right! She seems to be going into a supernatural mode! (edited) 2y

Pickpick

Not sure I like where this series is going. This is in between a pick and so-so. Better than the previous one. This one was, once again, too long. The book list focus at some point. I thought this was a series about Rhona, but this book was more about the superbly annoying McNab. Not ready to give up on these books, but I really hope the next one will be better.

EadieB @Tove_Reads Can‘t quit now, too far in! 2y
Andrew65 Have felt a little bit of drift i nthe series and not read the last two yet. 2y

Started reading this one, the 9th book in the Rhona MacLeod series. This one seems better than the previous one. Pace is also a lot better, at least the first 100 pages.

EadieB @Tove_Reads Great! Good to hear! 2y
Andrew65 Not got hold of this one yet. 2y
