Hedge Witch: A Threadneedle Novella
Hedge Witch: A Threadneedle Novella | Cari Thomas
4 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
An enchanting new novella set in the magical world of Sunday Times bestseller Threadneedle.Rowan is visiting her aunt - Winne the hedge witch - in the Welsh countryside, to get back to nature and hone her skills, as well as taking a break from her annoying sisters and enjoying some peace and quiet. However, Rowan soon comes to realise that hedges are a serious business and this isn't quite the opportunity to rest and escape she thought it might be.Not only that, but mysterious events around the town are causing panic in the secret magical community and cowans - non-magical folk - are starting to take notice. Can Rowan hone her hedge craft, try to make some friends and solve the riddle of the mysterious goings-on, or is magic about to be revealed to the world ... or at least Wales?

A librarian I worked with the other day recommended this to me and since it was available on the shelf, I borrowed it. Not sure why the library decided it was adult fiction because the main character is 15 and has been sent to stay with “her most eccentric family member” for the summer - but it‘s a lovely, gentle read about growing up and finding our place in the world… with a little magical mayhem thrown in.

GondorGirl This is a novella prequel. The series is a part of its great (and not really YA). If you enjoyed this you'll probably like the first book in the series 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @GondorGirl, the other books are also in adult fiction - so if they don‘t have a YA vibe then this one being in adult fiction makes more sense. 13mo

Maybe I‘ll get some help here since I‘m apparently being ignored everywhere else.

Does anyone know if I need to read Threedneedle before I can read this?

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I can't answer your question, but that book cover sure is pretty. 1y
Clare-Dragonfly I would guess since it‘s “set in the world of” that it‘s not a direct sequel so you probably don‘t. It might end up giving you small spoilers, though. 1y
Sweetkokoro @Clare-Dragonfly Thanks. I read it and it gave no spoilers aside from maybe the main character and some terms for the magic lol. But it‘s a very self contained story which was nice. 1y
Clare-Dragonfly Glad to hear it worked out! I just noticed that the cover design appears embroidered. It looks like my kind of book 😍 1y
Sweetkokoro @Clare-Dragonfly Yes it does have an embroidery design but I‘ll let you know now this novella has nothing to do with thread/sewing magic. I‘m assuming it‘s a call back design to the main book Threadneedle. This novella is all about a 15 yr old girl learning about Hedge Magic, so very plant based! 1y
