6-22-23: My 69th finished book of 2023! In 1955 Ann Woodward accidentally shot and killed her husband Billy. No one believed it was an accident. Least of all Truman Capote. They had a lot in common, coming from nowhere and needing to be seen in a place like NYC. Truman became obsessed with Ann and started writing Answered Prayers to tell her tale. This would ruin them both. Insightful and well written narrative nonfiction. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣6️⃣9️⃣

I‘m 1955, Ann Woodward shot and killed her very wealthy husband, stating she thought he was a prowler. This story looks at how their lives had unfolded to that point and the role Truman Capote played in the aftermath of the murder. An interesting story, but it didn‘t always hold my attention. A soft pick.

Parallel stories about Truman Capote, author of In Cold Blood and the 1950s socialite Ann Woodward who may have shot her husband. Capote was writing a book called Answered Prayers about his “swans “ who were socialite friends who confided their most innermost secrets. He took a dislike to Ann Woodward because of an incident at a restaurant and he didn‘t treat her well in the short story published that betrayed his friendships with the swans

I first read about Capote‘s La Côte Basque 1965 in Anderson Cooper‘s book. Capote spilled the secrets of his circle of female friends, including Cooper‘s mom Gloria Vanderbilt. But no one had it worse than Ann Woodward, who committed suicide over the story. Like Capote, Ann was a small-town social climber in NYC high society. She was ostracized after (maybe accidentally) shooting her husband. This book follows her and Capote‘s lives. #NFNov
