Forgive the catch-up posts. This is the 2nd in the series and I loved everything about it except the end. It felt like, while we got our HFN, the ending was abrupt, as if there was supposed to be an epilogue that is missing from the Kindle version. Other than that, again - great characters (I love these brothers!), well-written, and no weird euphemisms for body parts, which I appreciate. #romantsy

robinb Yay!!! Another winner! I don‘t quite remember the ending on this one...it‘s been years since I read it, but yes, I love Burrowes straight-forward writing and no-nonsense approach in her books. It‘s very refreshing. 😊👍 6y
DGRachel @robinb It was weird. I want to find a print copy, because it really felt like the Kindle copy was missing an epilogue. It ends with Emmie defending her declaration of love to Devlin and then Devlin saying he surrendered, too. The Heir had a proper epilogue. 6y
robinb Rachel, you are exactly right...I just looked back at my Kindle copy and that was very abrupt! And I‘m sure I thought that at the time too as I hate it when authors do that. 😫😠 Luckily I don‘t think she makes a habit of doing that. That‘s a pet peeve of mine though...frustrating! 6y

robinb Did you find her style unique? I really think she writes like no one else in the genre. 6y
DGRachel @robinb I haven‘t read a lot of authors in this genre, because I‘m very picky. She‘s not as flat out funny Tessa Dare, but there is something really smooth in her style that is compulsively readable. I really love that her intimate scenes don‘t use weird euphemisms. That‘s a huge pet peeve of mine. 6y
robinb @DGRachel I agree, although her humor is so very dry at times, I do find myself laughing out loud. And I find it hard to describe her style to people but compulsively readable and smooth certainly fit! Her characters are also very direct and honest during their intimate moments, which was very unusual to me. Do you read Lisa Kleypas or Julie Anne Long? They‘re both wonderful as well. 😊 6y
robinb And can I just say that this cover is breathtakingly beautiful....just WOW! 😍 6y
DGRachel @robinb I read Mine Till Midnight by Kleypas and did not enjoy it. I liked the writing style, but not the story or characters. I have read several of Julie Anne Long‘s books and enjoy them very much. I think I own the whole Redmond/Eversea series and have read the first three or four. And I totally agree about the book cover!😍 6y
robinb I love the Redmond/Eversea series...so good! And Julia Quinn‘s Bridgertons series is great as well. I‘m always drawn to those sibling series...when they‘re done well, I enjoy the sibling relationships just as much as the H/h relationships. 6y

Mehso-so

I was curious about the characters from the first book, so I picked this second one up--but I think the whole series could be called 600 PAGES OF NO GOOD REASON WHY THE COUPLE IS APART.

A writing friend once told me that my third novel was becoming "a series of events" instead of a plot, and those words apply here too.
