The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Stories
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Stories | Robert Louis Stevenson, Jenny Davidson
8 posts | 37 read | 8 to read
Dr. Jekyll invented a drug that would change him into Mr. Hyde, a foul-tempered, uncouth degenerate. His evil nature, however, became the stronger part of him and to his horror, he no longer needed the formula to transform his appearance.

Today‘s #LittensDressedInBlood prompt, Disturbia, had me stumped for a long while. Then when I connected the song with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it felt perfect! ❤️
Definitely felt like a song about fighting for control and I felt like both personalities could identify with the lyrics.
LXG Jekyll and Hyde featured because they‘re my favorites.😜😍

MidnightBookGirl I love that you have a favorite Jekyll and Hyde! 3y

Finished this collection of some of the more grim short stories written by the amazing Robert Louis Stevenson. I loved every bit of this, though there is a bit in Thrawn Janet where the accent is so strong it‘s hard to make sense of a sentence or two. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or Markheim were probably my favorites. The prose was a joy to read, so beautiful
I already counted the first story in my #Scarathlon2020 score, so the rest are as follows: ⬇️

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm A Lodging for the Night-5 points
The Suicide Club-5 points
Thrawn Janet-15 points
The Body-Snatcher-15 points
Markheim-15 points
+ 1 Participation point
Total of 56 points for #TeamHarkness
Running Total: 314

Look at this beautiful old book I bought this weekend. I had it in my hand because it spoke to me, so what are the chances that someone else in the store was looking for this exact book. I gave it to him but he ended up letting me have it. 📖🤗

I planned my girls trip in Indiana around this antiquarian bookstore in Charleston and I'm so glad I did. It's called O'Gara and Wilson Booksellers. Please visit them. I had so much fun there.

Freespirit Wow its a beautiful book💕 4y

Reading the original story of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde was so fascinating! I was surprised it was narrated by an outside observer, rather than a third-person/limited omniscient narrator. It kept the suspense of what was actually going on with Jekyll & Hyde (well, it would have if I weren‘t familiar with the concept from other adaptations!). So many interesting ideas—the divided self, how what‘s hidden can consume us—made for a great book discussion!

Who isn‘t familiar with Jekyll & Hyde and the images conjured up by each name? One represents a likable, upstanding citizen the other a monstrous persona. This novella is terrifying when one realizes the evil essence wasn‘t just brought about by an alchemical reaction, but was a part of him that he wanted to indulge. I like the way every person who encounters Hyde is struck by intense fear as though it isn‘t human, but something wildly different.

Palimpsest I used an internet image from the film as I forgot to take a picture of the book before returning it to the library. 5y

My latest car read. It is replacing the ebook version I've got. Funny thing though, my ebook version replaced this paper copy.

The beginning of one of the most infamous duos of all time: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Although they're the same person, their extensive personality differences set them apart. The other stories in this anthology include "A Lodging for the Night," "The Suicide Club," "Thrawn Janet," "The Body-snatcher," and "Markheim." Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I love reading the origin stories of famous characters.
