Mariah Fredericks's The Lindbergh Nanny is powerful, propulsive novel about Americas most notorious kidnapping through the eyes of the woman who found herself at the heart of this deadly crime. "A masterful blending of fact and fiction that is as compelling as it is entertaining."Nelson DeMille When the most famous toddler in America, Charles Lindbergh, Jr., is kidnapped from his family home in New Jersey in 1932, the case makes international headlines. Already celebrated for his flight across the Atlantic, his father, Charles, Sr., is the countrys golden boy, with his wealthy, lovely wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, by his side. But theres someone else in their householdBetty Gow, a formerly obscure young woman, now known around the world by another name: the Lindbergh Nanny. A Scottish immigrant deciphering the rules of her new homeland and its East Coast elite, Betty finds Colonel Lindbergh eccentric and often odd, Mrs. Lindbergh kind yet nervous, and Charlie simply a darling. Far from home and bruised from a love affair gone horribly wrong, Betty finds comfort in caring for the child, and warms to the attentions of handsome sailor Henrik, sometimes known as Red. Then, Charlie disappears. Suddenly a suspect in the eyes of both the media and the public, Betty must find the truth about what really happened that night, in order to clear her own nameand to find justice for the child she loves. "Gripping and elegant, The Lindbergh Nanny brings readers into the interior of the twentieth centurys most infamous crime."Nina de Gramont, New York Times bestselling author of The Christie Affair

I absolutely loved this audiobook! I only knew the gist of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping before reading this and, while I know this is fiction, I do think it really helped me better understand the intricacies of what happened, the suspects, the family, the role the media played in the whole thing, and much more. Also, I really dislike Lindbergh himself after this…such a cold asshole! I now want to read more about the family which is the mark of ⬇️

candc320 Cont‘d: truly excellent Historical Fiction to me. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 1y

This book read more like historical non-fiction, which wasn‘t necessarily a bad thing in this case. The story covered a topic that I knew little about. I was intrigued to learn about the Lindbergh kidnapping, such a tragic story. While the protagonist seemed brave, I didn‘t feel that she was as strong as some I‘ve read about in past novels. I look forward to our book clubs upcoming discussion with this author.

There is so much about this case out there but not much about the nanny Betty Gow. This was really well researched and I think fans of historical fiction based on true events will find this a compelling read. I managed to read it one sitting.

TheBookHippie Ooooo. This looks good. 1y
KristiAhlers @TheBookHippie it really was. And I love how much research she put into it. 1y

My Thanksgiving read was a great one! Had we not had 26 people here, I would‘ve finished this in a flash! Fredericks presents a well-researched and sympathetic heroine in Betty Gow and her role in what is still one of the most infamous cases of kidnapping and murder. Engaging and fascinating, I really found myself engrossed in this one at every opportunity I had to read it! I never wanted to put it down and really enjoyed reading it!

IndoorDame 26! I hope a lot of them brought dishes and stayed to help clean up! 1y
TorieStorieS @IndoorDame Oh just about everyone brought something and I hope to have the last of the glassware in the dishwasher after it finishes its current load! 🤣 1y
IndoorDame @TorieStorieS glad to hear you got some help at least 😊 1y
TorieStorieS @IndoorDame For sure! It was all family so there were lots of helping hands!! 🥰 1y

Did you know who the Lindbergh nanny was?

I had never heard her name nor of the nanny herself.

THE LINDBERGH NANNY is an excellent, well-researched, fictionalized account of this tragic event.

The author notes at the end give additional information. 4/5
