Mehso-so

Meh. I enjoy accounts of adventure and challenging outdoorsmanship, generally, and this stirred a longing to go for a hike, sure. A little. But boy, some of the GR reviews are brutal! You guys: this was a 21yo middle-class girl who kept a trail journal and made it a book. Why all the hate? If you choose to pick up a memoir, you‘re choosing to know that person‘s thoughts/feelings/reactions. Spoiler: You can, you know, just put the book down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed this book. Davis was very honest about the highs and lows of hiking the AT as a single woman.

Megabooks I really enjoyed this too!! 5y

As an ongoing fan of Jennifer, I follow her posts on Instagram and missed out on meeting her last year at a book signing. ( couldn‘t leave work early enough) Thru-Hikers can also be described as machines, adventurers, and extremely driven, and this describes Jennifer in her travels! Thoroughly enjoy that she shares her journeys. #odyssa #jenniferpharrdavis

A power outage: how symbolic when reading a book about hiking. #candlelight reading

I'm an armchair traveler. I enjoy reading about others hiking the Appalachian Trail without any desire to follow in their footsteps.

This has everything one wants in a memoir- challenges overcome, a writer that recognizes & can smile at their own flaws, funny moments, and deeply sad moments. I was brought to tears many times!
Davis' voice is refreshing. She is paints such a picture of the & trail life that you think you are there. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I found her blog and read back several months in the archives because I just wasn't ready for the book to be over!

#underhypedbooks Probably my favorite book about the AT or trail hiking in general. Davis takes on the feminine version of Odysseus as she hikes the trail alone with very minimal help. Definitely an inspirational book and frequently goes on sale on Kindle. Cool fact: on a later hike, she sets the women's speed record on the AT. 👏🏻👏🏻 #Augustphotochallenge #augustofpages
