Menewood: A Novel | Nicola Griffith
5 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
In the much anticipated sequel to Hild, Nicola Griffiths Menewood transports readers back to seventh-century Britain, a land of rival kings and religions poised for epochal change. Hild is no longer the bright child who made a place in Edwin Overking's court with her seemingly supernatural insight. She is eighteen, honed and tested, the formidable Lady of Elmet, now building her personal stronghold in the valley of Menewood. But Edwin needs his most trusted advisor. Old alliances are fraying. Younger rivals are snapping at his heels. War is brewingbitter war, winter war. Not knowing who to trust he becomes volatile and unpredictable. Hild begins to understand the true extent of the chaos ahead, and now she must navigate the turbulence and fight to protect both the kingdom and her own people. Hild will face the losses and devastation of total war, and then she must find a new strength, the implacable determination to forge a radically different path for herself and her people. In the valley, her last redoubt, her community slowly takes root. She trains herself and her unexpected allies in new ways of thinking as she prepares for one last wager: risking all on a single throw for a better future... In the last decade, Hild has become a beloved classic of epic storytelling. Menewood picks up where that journey left off, and exceeds it in every way.

This is my haul from the B&N Hardcover Sale this morning. I went in for the tagged book and came out with a pretty nice stack! I received a gift card from my in-laws for Christmas, so that made the browsing fun.

See anything you‘ve read and loved?

intothehallofbooks @Tamra I just read back over #mtcookbook and it looks like fun! I‘m in! I love the idea someone else had of pre-picking recipes-I may try that myself. Combing thru all of my cookbooks to find something interesting takes a while and I think it even can be more stressful sometimes. The HalfBaked Harvest books are completely new to me but I‘m so excited to try them out! 11mo
intothehallofbooks @Drnkpnkprincess I‘ve heard about this book for ages and I‘ve seen it on so many people‘s shelves. I‘m dying to read it and cook a little and learn a little too. Simple but exquisite sounds great as far as recipes go! 11mo
intothehallofbooks @BennettBookworm I can‘t believe I‘ve never looked at them before. I mean, I‘ve seen them in stores, but I had not flipped thru them until yesterday, when I bought them. The recipes look delicious and beautiful. I can‘t wait to start cooking from them!! 11mo
Tamra @intothehallofbooks 👏🏾👏🏾 Low key - it‘s a cook as you like. 😊 #Mtcookbook 11mo
