We caught our first swarm of honeybees last weekend and this morning we transferred them to their hive! I took an online beekeeping class at the beginning of the pandemic and I'm excited to finally put what I learned to work! I'm quickly realizing that this is something you truly learn by doing rather than reading 😉
Since the bees are the experts, I'll follow their lead! 👑🐝🍯
AlaMich Wow! How do you catch a swarm of bees? 13mo
Suet624 Nice! 13mo
kyraleseberg @AlaMich We have a box on a tree about 10 ft off the ground with a few hive frames inside; the box is "baited" with lemongrass oil (the scent attracts honeybees). When warm weather hits, swarms will take off in search of food/split from a larger hive if a new queen hatched. The warm weather we've had in GA recently sent a swarm out earlier than we anticipated! They found the box - and the little honey we left inside ? and decided to stay! 13mo

Alfoster That‘s so cool! Now you need to read Jodi Picoult‘s newest, Mad Honey as the woman is a bee keeper as well! 13mo
