Perfect for fans of Deanna Raybourn and Ashley Weaver, when a body is found shot to death after an unexpected snowstorm, Lily Adler quickly realizes that some people will stop at nothing to bury their secrets. Regency widow Lily Adler is looking forward to a quiet Christmastide away from the schemes and secrets she witnessed daily in London. Not only will she be visiting the family of her late husband; she will be reunited with Captain Jack Hartley, her friend and confidante, finally returned after a long voyage at sea. But secrets arent only found in London. Jacks younger sister, Amelia, is the center of neighborhood scandal and gossip. She refuses to tell anyone what really happened, even when an unexpected snowstorm strands the neighborhood families together after a Christmas ball. Stuck until the snow stops, the Adlers, Hartleys, and their neighbors settle in for the night, only to be awakened in the morning by the scream of a maid who has just discovered a dead body. The victim was the well-to-do son of a local gentlemanthe same man whose name has become so scandalously linked to Amelias. With the snow still falling and no way to come or go, its clear that someone in the house was responsible for the young mans death. When suspicion instantly falls on Jacks sister, he and Lily must unmask the true culprit before Amelia is convicted of a crime she didnt commit.

This historical mystery was my only 5⭐️ of July.

This is 4th in a new favorite series featuring a strong, intrepid heroine, and even better, this one took place during a snowstorm house party lockdown…a favorite location of mine. 😉

Entertaining, smartly plotted and compelling characters made this an excellent read for me.

Book 4 in Lily Adler series.

A snowstorm during a Christmas ball strands the partygoers for several days at their hostess's home. A murder occurs the first night, and motives, secrets, and nefarious deeds abound.

My goal for #Adventathon was to finish December‘s book club selections and then read holiday books that I had on my shelves and my TBR list. Mission accomplished!

This was a book club selection AND a holiday book. I think I liked it more than the rest of the members did, and I plan to read more by this author. If nothing else, I‘ll read the next in the series, which is conveniently scheduled for publication in 2024.

Attendees at a winter ball are stuck at a manor home after a storm. It‘s all fun and games until someone is murdered! But not to worry, a clever heroine is on hand to assist her brother-in-law the magistrate, and they get to the bottom of the various crimes being committed. By the end of several days of unexpected guests, I know the hostess is saying anything but #letitsnow and is as anxious for them to leave as they are to go. #decemberdreams

‘Tis the season for a #readathon or two…or more!

First up is #20in4 and my goal is to finish the tagged book and at least one more December book club selection.

Also starting today is #Adventathon and my goal is to finish the rest of the book club selections and then lean into some seasonal books on my TBR.

All month is #rushathon and my goal is to finish as many books on my 2023 TBR as possible.

In other words, read all month!

Andrew65 Best of luck 😁 13mo

Fourth in the Lily Adler historical mystery series, this book finds young widow Lily visiting her late husband‘s family in the country for a Christmas holiday party. She is reunited with her friends Captain Jack Hartley (a friend of her late husband‘s and a recent sleuthing partner) and Matthew Spencer (a widower with children who has recently been involved in a romantic liaison with Lily). As the weather deteriorates and forces a snowstorm ⬇️

Jack and Lily team up to exonerate her and bring the killer to justice, but things grow increasingly tense as secrets are kept and motives are discovered. This was a wonderful addition to the series. I love that Lily‘s character is a strong, intelligent young woman and that we ⬇️ 1y

Thanks to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for this e-ARC in return for my honest review. This is my first Lily Adler and I had not realized this was part of a series. Thankfully it was well written that it can be read as a standalone with a blend of Poirot and Marple and a tinge of Sherlock Holmes. If you liked lady detective mystery during historical regency era, I would recommend this. Be forewarned that it has a tiny bit LGBT. My rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️
