Little Mushroom
Little Mushroom: Judgment Day | Shisi
6 posts | 1 read
Until the day humanity falls. In the year 2020, Earths magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases. In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe. An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and mercilessas soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot. But An Zhe's mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng's eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds Silver Award Winner of 2021s Xingyun Awards for Global Chinese Science Fiction for Best Original Novel

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finished the duology. Yes, I sobbed. So glad I gave this story a chance. Totally worth it.

Officially on vacation. Took a trip to Barnes and Noble and picked up some much anticipated books. Now I'm diving into the second Little Mushroom book that does seem like it's going to make me cry quite a bit. Time to do nothing but read for the next 9 days ⭐️🥰

There were virtually no people on the stairs, or perhaps there were only a handful of people rushing about--fewer than usual.

This is a duology and this review is for the first book but omg. I loved it. Beginning to end. The ethics behind how humanity continues to survive an apocalyptic event. The toll of widescale killing on those who must carry it out to keep others safe versus the image it creates for the survivors. Seeing all of it from the perspective of a character who is NOT human, but not a monster either. I just loved this. Reading the second ASAP.

My lil buddy here is gonna be helping me through the rest of this book. It's gonna take a lot of deep breathing and to not just be teary-eyed while reading.
