After reading his memoir "Helmet For My Pillow," I got this from the library. A short overview of the brutal battle for Okinawa, it is relatively balanced despite Leckie's service on the Pacific Front. One gets the idea the horror and waste of war moved him to grudging sympathy for his opponents, a feature all too rare in military writing. All in all, a good read; I do recommend reading his memoir first, though.
