I Don't Need Therapy
I Don't Need Therapy: (and other lies I've told myself) | Toni Lodge
4 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
A hilarious memoir of home truths and whatever the opposite of 'that girl energy' is, from one half of the hit podcast Toni and Ryan. Most of us tell little white lies all the time. Whether it's 'I'm five minutes away' or 'It must have gone to my spam folder', most of these fibs are harmless. But what if you realised that you weren't just lying about the little things, but the big 'life' stuff too? When Toni Lodge sat down to write this memoir, she discovered that the lies she was telling herself were hiding some pretty important home truths-about her work, her identity and her mental health. Her dogged pursuit of these truths sent her on a brazen exploration of everything from gastro, fame and Twilight to funerals, the Dalai Lama and Brazilian waxes. In this hilarious warm hug of a book, Toni exposes the lies she has told herself about who she is and what she is capable of, inviting you on a riotous romp that will make you laugh, cringe, cry and utterly rethink the truth behind the stories we tell ourselves.

Totally strayed from my #scarathlon TBR, to impulse read/listen to this audiobook by one of my favourite podcasters! Probably won‘t gain me many word search points, but I did FINALLY get clarification on something that‘s been bugging me for YEARS!

I always thought that Australian/UK audiobooks were pronouncing diamonds as DIE-AH-MUN-TEES. Turns out they call rhinestones DIAMONTES. My husband asked an Australian Twitch streamer, and he clarified.

Clwojick @Andrew65 tagging you in this, because I know I‘ve ranted to you about this one before! 😜😅🤣 7mo

Clwojick @Andrew65 party x 1 got me a whopping 10pts! Ahahah 7mo
Andrew65 @Clwojick 10 is better than none. I‘m struggling getting Halloween, vampire, pumpkin and costume. (edited) 7mo
Clwojick @Andrew65 same! And Spooky. My books are too dark. I‘ll need to add some MURDER, DEAD, and MISSING to next years list 🤣🤣🤣 7mo
Andrew65 @Clwojick Bone worked well last year as well. Like you my books are more on the dark side than the haunting /ghost / vampire side. 7mo

Toni and Ryan regularly make me cry laughing, and I was expecting more of the same with Toni's book. I definitely got that, but also much more. She's incredibly open about the good, the bad, and the ugly of life. I cried with laughter, but also with genuine emotion as she relayed living through the loss of her mom, panic and anxiety, and her journey with therapy. Unexpectedly wonderful read!

Bookish.SAM I ❤️ Toni and Ryan!! 4mo
TheKidUpstairs @Bookish.SAM Right?! They never fail to make me laugh. I just love how much they clearly enjoy each others company :) 4mo

I love the Toni & Ryan podcast so I had good expectations going into this book. Toni‘s sense of humor and honesty about the embarrassing stuff is across every page. I was not, however, prepared for the section about her mom passing. I was definitely crying at my desk while listening to it.
