"Playmate, come and play with me..." A beloved classic reimagined with a dark twist. After her parents' painful divorce, Evie Archer hopes that moving to Ravenglass, Massachusetts, is the fresh start that her family needs. But Evie quickly realizes that her new home—known by locals as the Horror House—carries its own dark past after learning about Holly Hobbie, who mysteriously vanished in her bedroom one night. But traces of Holly linger in the Horror House and slowly begin to take over Evie's life. A strange shadow follows her everywhere she goes, and Evie starts to lose sight of what's real and what isn't the more she learns about The Lost Girl. Can Evie find out what happened the night of Holly's disappearance? Or is history doomed to repeat itself in the Horror House?

Not a genre a regularly read, but I actually really enjoyed it. At times the writing just didn't quite hit right, it would just be a little bit off, but other than that, I don't have any complaints. I thought the story had some layers to it and plenty of foreshadowing. It didn't have many twists to it, so in that way it was straightforward. Overall, a great start to a series, one that I will probably continue.

Holly Horror is a gripping, twisted young adult novel that I enjoyed. It jumped right into the tale and didn‘t let go. It is a fast-paced novel and I liked the inclusion of things such as text messages to help in the telling of the story. I enjoyed the characters and the honesty in their feelings, motivations and actions. I was hooked into the mystery surrounding Holly and The Patchwork Girl and traveling with Evie on the path towards the truth.

My rating was flip flopping between a 3 and 4 throughout this book, but overall it's more of a 3. The premise and cover definitely drew me in. The story started off strong and I was really into it but then the pace slowed down. The writing was mostly OK but seemed inconsistent at times.

Holly Horror is a fast paced book. I enjoyed it from the start. The characters were well written and very relatable. I enjoyed Evie‘s quest to find out about what happened to Holly all those years ago. This book has a different twist with the relationship with Evie and Holly which I found very enjoyable. Though this is a young adult book I think anyone who enjoys this genre would enjoy this story.
