Nico and Will take on a rescue mission that brings them back down into the depths of Tartarus, where they face everything from actual monsters and the environment to their own inner feelings. Another fun romp in the world of demigods and reimagined Greek mythology! I wish more was done with the split timeline. #LGBTQIA #GreekMythology

The new Percy Jackson book being released gave me the push to finish The Trials of Apollo series and catch up on the Percy Jackson universe this week. I forgot how entertaining these books are!
A story featuring Nico? Yes! And so good!

"The Sun and The Star" by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. 9,3/10 rating. Beautifuk tender book about relationships, love and acceptance. Everything entangled with a super awesome quest of course, as Rick never fails to create.

Our son LOVED the Percy Jackson books when he was younger and I read the series when he did to share in his excitement. I was happy to see that Nico, son of Hades, got his own book. This is a wonderful YA read, full of excitement and goofy humor and most importantly representation. Well done.

I will take every opportunity I can get to live in the #PJO universe. Goofy humor? Excellent relationships? Learning important emotional lessons that will help you become a more well-adjusted human being? Sign me the hell up. #mglit #mgfantasy

Nothing like the smell of a new stack of books!!!

I have no words. I loved this. You can clearly see how much effort Rick Riordan and of course Mark Oshiro went through to create this real, tense, heartbreaking, believable, heartwarming, and QUEER story. The representation and their ability to bring words to emotions brought me to tears on multiple occasions. Not to mention the fact that the plot itself was wonderful and how excited I was to return to this world. A definite 5⭐️.
The future held hope.
And he clung to it.
Nico was not afraid of the light anymore.
“We are not only one thing forever. We‘re allowed to change at any point in our lives. We don‘t have to be stuck with a label someone else assigns us. Gods, we don‘t even have to stick to a label we give ourselves. So, you can be bi or pan or a lesbian or queer, and tomorrow you may have a better sense of who you are, or tomorrow you can be a big ole queer mess and figure it out fifty years from now.”
“To be alive in the world once more…It is beautiful.”
Will had heard love described in so many dramatic, bizarre ways over the years, but no one had described it like this:
It‘s like drifting down a river of pain and knowing you are safe.
It‘s like holding a person in your arms and realizing they are an interlocking piece of a puzzle you hadn‘t known how to assemble.
No light was brighter than Nico di Angelo.
Even in the darkest parts of life, there was still…light.

He was at home in darkness.
But that didn‘t mean that he couldn‘t choose the alternative.
He was the son of Apollo.
He had survived the Underworld without the sun.
He was one of only four demigods ever to travel to Tartarus.
And now here was Nico di Angelo, the boy he‘d fallen in love with, fighting to return to the mortal world.
“You have no idea who I am.”
“As long as I live,” said Bob, “I will fight for you Nico di Angelo.”
“Death isn‘t evil. It‘s just…death.”
In that moment Nico pushed aside his panic and his fear, because…
Well, Will Solace believed in him.
Three words.
A promise of hope.
The words tingled Will‘s ear.
They ignited his heart.
“I love you.”
And they fell.
“What does it mean?”
“Us,” Will said. “Together. Two sides of one coin. I gave it to Nico so if we ever got separated he would know I was thinking of him, no matter where he was.”
“Why not offer him your darkness?”
“There cannot be light without darkness, nor darkness without light. You must have the contrast for both to exist.”
“No matter what form love takes, no matter how much or how little you have, you must still choose to cultivate it. In friendships, in romantic relationships, in life.”
“You know love is a difficult choice, right?”
“Why? What changed?”
Nico was quiet for a moment. “I decided I could own it.”
“Homophobia? In the land of the dead?” He scoffed.
“We are all of us made of stories.”
“I‘m one demigod.”
[…]
“You are Nico di Angelo.”
“Who likes normal?” Nico said. “I much prefer the weird.”
“It is Nico di Angelo, son of Hades! I have returned with my glow-in-the-dark boyfriend, Will Solace.”
“You are a legitimate demigod Care Bear.”
“You said you were darkness. Well, I‘m the opposite.”
“The dead can dream just like everyone else.”
“Sometimes mortals are not aware of the threads that bind them. You could both be wrong about the first time you met, and yet the two of you have orbited each other for so long, like heavenly bodies in the sky.”
Will squeezed Nico‘s hand. “I like how that sounds.”
“Honestly though? If any two people could survive a journey to Tartarus and back, I think it‘s you two.”
“For your mind to heal, your body must also.”
For a long time, Nico had assumed he himself did not have a heart. He was the son of Hades, after all. Love didn‘t find people like him. But then came…Will.
“You gotta choose,” Will said to Nico. “Those are the rules.”
Nico frowned. “I‘m the son of Hades. I don‘t live by most rules.”

Putting all of my other books on hold right now for this beauty! Already all the feels.

I completely and unabashedly love this series. And I think this might be the best yet. It's a bit darker and heavier than most of the other books, but still has those moments of humor that we've come to expect. I think bringing Mark Oshiro on as a co-writer was a brilliant move. Not only do they actually understand the queer perspective, but their youth brings some new pop references and depth to the series. Love love LOVE this one.
Absolutely love this!!! Gave me a lot more of Nico. It also gave me a lot of Will and made me love both of them so much. Was a emotional ride and I loved every second of it!!
