Short story collections can be hit or miss but this one was great. I enjoyed pretty much all of the stories, which is rare. Each story featured mlm relationships during a masquerade. They had a good mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements and lots of diverse queer representation. I appreciated the inclusion of platonic and polyamory relationships, as well as classic tropes like friends or enemies to lovers

This was a gorgeous novel about finding your purpose and following your passions despite external pressures. Grace has always had a life plan, but when the struggle to succeed in her field because of racial and sexist ideals becomes too much, she drunkenly gets married in Vegas and decides to spend the summer with her new wife. A beautiful expression of found family, identity, and dealing with anxiety

Only Orlando | Charlie Novak

Pickpick

A spin off story for one of the side characters from another of this author's series. Orlando matches with an older married couple and the three men navigate a new relationship together. Charles is a Dom and Jude is a Daddy, Orlando is happy to fall into their dynamic. This was all spice and fluff with practically zero angst or conflict. Perfect light read and palate cleanser.

A Taste of Gold and Iron | Alexandra Rowland

I wanted to reread this one in preparation for Tadek's story & I decided to do the audiobook this time. And ughhh this book is so good! 18 hours just flew by! The slowburn romance is everything, I love witnessing Evermer slowly discovering Kadou's character as more than just a flighty prince. I love the way these two grow closer & how fealty between a prince and his protectors is described so intricately and with such significance on reciprocity⬇️

peanutnine And I love how panic attacks are portrayed so accurately & treated with care from the other characters even though they aren't named or understood in this fantasy world. 2w

This was a short and funny Hamlet retelling set at a southern family barbeque. Juicy is a queer Black college kid who sees his father's ghost after he was killed in prison. Except Juicy doesn't want to get revenge, but is trying to break his family's cycle of trauma and toxic masculinity.
This was originally written as a play, and I think it would thrive on the stage

Backstage of a 1950s drag show, there‘s banter, romance, jealousy, and community. And the lives of a veteran, an artist, and a performer intersect in ways no one anticipated.

This was such an unexpected delight. I loved the banter between all the queens, & their support even as they heckled each other. There‘s a lot of POV hopping that works for the most part. & a twist on all of my expectations, with a satisfying resolution. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

The Stonewall Reader | New York Public Library

This is a really great resource on the LGBTQ movement. It recounts the Stonewall Riots from multiple first hand perspectives, through interviews & articles written at the time. It also explores other events leading up to that night, which set the stage for the uprising, & the years afterwards. It spotlights the activists who led the fight for gay rights.
I recommend listening to the audiobook, as some of the interviews are the original recordings

Kenyazero Sounds amazing! Good to know about the interview audio in the audiobook as well! 4w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa That sounds great! Thank you for putting it on my radar 3w

This series is so fun! Dinosaur shifters getting into mischief and falling in love 💖
Royal's the tech guy who doesn't usually do field missions. When it goes wrong & his one night stand gets wrapped up in the drama, the two band together to track down the baddies & rescue a new shifter.
The two personalities are great. Blaise is a genderfluid drag queen who just wants to work with dinosaurs. Royal is a pansexual triceratops who's in over his head

TheSpineView Well done! 4w

I picked this up after it was mentioned in A Scatter of Light. It's very evocative and introspective. Rich meditates on her experience as a woman in society and the role of feminism. She also does a lot of self-reflection with musings on love and relationships. I can't pretend that I understood all of it because poetry is not my strong suit but I enjoyed reading a couple poems each day

Kitta Oh she‘s mentioned in the book I‘m reading now and it makes me want to pick up some of her poetry! 4w
Kenyazero Nice! I haven‘t read any of her work yet, but it‘s on my list! I never feel like I get out of poetry what a lot of other readers do so I feel almost bad for reading it if I‘m not appreciating it on the same level 😶 4w

This was another well done children's book about LGBTQ+ history. It details the life and activism of Cleve Jones, who worked with Harvey Milk and came up with the concept of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. There is a really moving poem comparing stitching a quilt to building a community and a movement, which was threaded throughout the book nicely
