A scrappy former maid and jewel thief must outwit gods, injustice, and her own past in this sequel to the Indie Next Pick, Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. Let's get one thing straight - Vanja Schmidt wasn't trying to start a cult. After taking down a corrupt margrave, breaking a deadly curse, and finding romance with the vexingly scrupulous junior prefect Emeric Conrad, Vanja had one great mystery left: her long-lost birth family . . . and whether they would welcome a thief. But in her search for an honest trade, she hit trouble and invented a god, the Scarlet Maiden, to scam her way out. Now that lie is growing out of controlespecially when Emeric arrives to investigate and the Scarlet Maiden manifests to claim him as a virgin sacrifice. For his final test to become a prefect, Emeric must determine if Vanja is guilty of serious fraud or if the Scarlet Maidenand her claim to himis genuine. Meanwhile, Vanja is chasing an alternative sacrifice that could be their way out. The hunt leads her not only into the lairs of monsters and the paths of gods, but also the ties of her past. And with what should be the simplest way to save Emeric hanging over their heads, he and Vanja must face a more dangerous question: Is there a future for a thief and a prefect, and at what price? From the indie bestselling author Margaret Owen comes the thrilling next installment in the Little Thieves trilogy with all new interior illustrations from the author.

Phenomenal second book. Kept me intrigued the whole time with the plot and characters. These two are both so adorable and aggravating. Though they are getting there through her childhood emotional trauma. Couldn‘t put this book down sometimes because I was so into Vanja trying to be worth the others love for her. Hilarious conversations between the two wanting to “up” their relationship but neither knowing how. Great examples for communication.

#Illumicrate sequel … I really enjoyed the monthly sub from last year - Little Thieves - so I ordered the matching sequel & here it is.

End papers are white. It came with a signed book plate. The hard cover is printed with artwork on front & back.

Already read it & enjoyed it!! ♥️

In the process of trying to find herself beyond her lies and cons, Vanja accidentally starts a cult, resurrects a goddess, and gets a quest. As one does.

Goddamn, that cliffhanger has left my heart pumping! Once again, Owen does a marvelous job of juggling a large/diverse/charming cast, while making an engaging tale of recovering from familial abuse & falling in love. I loved the romance & the epic scope of the world. Can‘t wait for 3! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

🎧 She‘s a con artist, a thief & a liar … she‘s the goddaughter of Death & Fortune ... I love this main character!

I enjoyed Little Thieves & the sequel is even better. Yes … it leaves you in a bit of a cliff hanger BUT the story has advanced pretty quickly. Bombshells have been dropped. Decisions have been made. There are talking creatures/animals. I‘m ready for book 3 now.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻

Twainy Narrator is perfect for this story & our MC! There‘s humor that was consistently smile-worthy & even a few LOL moments! I‘ve pre-ordered the SE hardcover that matches my special edition of Little Thieves. I dragged my feet reading this. I‘ve had the ARC for weeks, I was afraid it wouldn‘t be as good as LT, I procrastinated for nothing. Fun book, light on angsty YA & adult sex scenes (why I said YA readable)

Publication Date - 5/16/23

Twainy PS - the book begins with a list of trigger warnings. I wasn‘t bothered BUT you might want to see if it‘s in the publisher summary or audio sample! Hmm my trigger warning about possible trigger warnings. 😁 12mo
