This book is a mood more than anything else. It paints a beautiful, dark gothic locale; both with the prose and the art within the book. However, the plot and characterization is just not fully fleshed out. It drags the first two thirds of the book with vivid imagery, then rushes through the actual story the last third. Not a bad read, just meh. The book itself is gorgeous though, especially this #illumicrate edition. 3⭐️
I enjoyed this book. It‘s small & short. Pretty stenciled edges on three sides, the hardcover is white with red foil writing & the opposing houses. Interesting end papers have illustrations that are reminiscent of the hallway of portraits. #illumicrate March 2022.
🎧📚 Annoying YA trope but it didn‘t realllllly bother me.
A bastard bard is sent away for nearly a decade to learn his craft. He‘s summoned back to the isle as girls are disappearing.
Mysteries involving the girls & the question about his parentage then the tropey YA romance but thankfully no awkward sexy time.
It‘s a story with a bit of magic & earth, wind, fire & water elementals can be summoned from nature.
