Fear The Silence
Fear The Silence | Robert Bryndza

'Do you believe Will took his own life?' The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital's cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me. When Maggie's husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger. Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn't suicidal. He had so much to live for. After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret. As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will's death is connected to someone from his past... Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent. Three can keep a secret... If two of them are dead. The international multi-million bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice is back with his first stand-alone thriller, a heart-racing, hold-your-breath read that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

The police said that Maggie's husband killed himself but Maggie kept saying that he was not suicidal. Maggie travels to their holiday island of Tisina, Croatia and finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing a dark secret. This psychological thriller left me on the edge. It is a fast-paced read, well-written and broadly atmospheric.

EadieB It hooked me from the beginning to the satisfying ending. I loved reading about an island of Croatia as I have traveled to Croatia to find my relatives. There are about a thousand islands off of Croatia and we stayed on Pag and Hvar Island and had a wonderful time. I am now looking forward to the next Bryndza novel. If you love reading about Croatian islands then you would love this book. 1y

Set in London and a small Croatian island, this story follows Maggie, a trauma surgeon whose husband Will, by all accounts, committed suicide…but did he and if so, why? As Maggie begins to uncover secrets about her husband‘s past, she is placed in danger and must go on the run from powerful people because of her knowledge. Who can she trust and just how far?
While this book was fine, it was definitely a soft pick for me. I did find it a bit 🔻

robinb tedious and frustrating with the back-and-forth weakness/strength displayed by Maggie. Definite twists and turns, but a couple of twists at the end (in Maggie‘s private life) I found unlikely and unnecessary for the story, and the story ended up a bit too tidy at its ending. 3.5/5⭐️ (edited) 2y
