In the Likely Event | Rebecca Yarros
7 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
From USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros comes a sweeping romance about the sustained power of chance encounters. When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn't expecting much. It's the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful. Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can't resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now. Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River. Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right. Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy's life. He'll do anything to keep her safe. And everything to win her heart.

I think this was a freebie from Amazon First Reads...

I wanted to get a taste of Rebecca Yarros since everyone is talking about her more popular books.

I liked this story enough that I just might (maybe) try her fantasy books even though that is not my typical genre.

This was well-written and a page-turner. Reading the 'about the author' page made me like her even more - a hockey mom (I remember those days) 😄

Wow. This is my book club‘s pick for February and I might have to read it again because it was a wild emotional ride. 🎢

Okay first, the songs mentioned throughout this book make for a damn good soundtrack! Now second, the military piece is a little far fetched but I don‘t mind because romantic fantasy always outweighs reality. This was a quick read for me because I didn‘t want to put my kindle down. I was consumed by the chemistry between Izzy and Nate from page one. Book #67 in 2023

Izzy and Nate met on a disastrous airplane flight. She headed off to college and he to Boot Camp. For 10 years, they had clandestine encounters, few and far apart. Nate became a special ops soldier and Izzy a lawyer working for a senator. They met again during the fall of Afghanistan. What can I say this book? It has lovable characters, a terrifying war story, dysfunctional family dynamics, and some very hot 🔥 love scenes. 4-Stars from me.

I had moments where I connected to characters individually…but not necessarily in their romantic connection to each other. I did find the present timeline in the Kandahar Province quite interesting and maybe if the overall structure of the story had been different; I could‘ve been more into it…but as it was, not so much. I really like this author (even before Fourth Wing) but this wasn‘t my fav contemporary romance by her.

Friends, I read this in 24 hours and worked a full day.
It was heartbreaking and heartwarming. It was a push and pull and so much waiting. It was romance and love having to wait. I loved it.
