Wild: An Elemental Journey
Wild: An Elemental Journey | Jay Griffiths
Jay Griffiths describes an extraordinary odyssey, courageous and sometimes dangerous, to wildernesses of earth and ice, water and fire. It is also a journey into that greatest of uncharted lands - wild mind - as she explores the words and meanings which shape our ideas and our experience of our own wildness.

Armchair travelling this weekend - to the Amazon first. I think someone on Litsy sent me this book, perhaps in a swap, and I'm really sorry, I can't remember who!! If it was you, thank you ❤️❤️

@Clare-Dragonfly I‘m sure the intricate details will evolve over time but right now, my practice is this:

I light candles; I make sure to always have fresh flowers on my altar (a little bit of nature, inside: what Jay Griffiths calls: the “natural world, writ little”); I have pre-cut squares of cardstock & watercolor markers ready to go. I meditate on a word (it can also be a person, a name) that I want to focus on for the day. 👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: When I have the word, I draw a petal, write the word in pencil, color the petal in, go over it with a micron pen, & then cut the petal out. I‘m storing them in a little set of drawers & plan to review them at the end of the year (see what I needed most, etc). Also, while I‘m thinking, I press play on an audiobook of poems. The word can come from the verses, as well. Right now, it‘s 3y
monalyisha @Clare-Dragonfly I also made it a point this morning, before blowing out the candles, to step outside on my back porch, look at the sky, listen & take a few deep breaths of the air. It was nice. 🌬🍂 3y
Clare-Dragonfly Oh, how lovely! Thank you! 3y
monalyisha @Clare-Dragonfly Yeah! Quick & easy. I wanted something I could do before work. “A stub of candle, a petal, a word.” 🌸 3y

I started a new ritual practice this morning, based on a piece by Jay Griffiths. It feels good! 🙌🏻 Now, hopefully I stick with it. Let me know if you want details; I‘d be happy to share.

“Many people profess no clear religion...and yet...a yearning persists to rekindle it from a stub of candle, a petal, a word.”

Clare-Dragonfly I am very interested in the details! 3y

Cheeky coffee at lunchtime 😊😊😊 I ❤️ this book, it's fascinating. Jay Griffiths travelled the world visiting cultures and meeting people. It took her 7 years to write this book but it's so beautiful I want to cry on every other page!!!

quietlycuriouskate Her writing scorches the page, doesn't it! By the end I did feel like I'd been bludgeoned by her recurring anger, though. I'll look forward to your review. 7y
Richryan52 @TheLondonBookworm Hello. May I ask if you are a Sherlock Holmes fan? 7y
TheLondonBookworm @River_Voice it does!!! Haha yeah I felt that, I was also a tad put out by her miraculous recovery from depression by moving to the Amazon- would that we all had that option! Haha 7y
