If you woke up today thinking "I'd like to see a dog looking disdainful in a bookshop", then you're welcome.

My last mini book haul in Denver. Going to start one of these on the flight home.
More book therapy today
Me: ok, so I can only buy one book, because they are very expensive in the US
Also me: ⬆️
That's supposed to be MY reading chair Daisy! That's yours on the floor.
Another good read. This year has been off to a good start in terms of reading for me. This is another New Zealand author. I thought this was really interesting. It's got a dysfunctional family, and dissects the effects of privilege and generational accumulation of wealth, as well as looking at aspects of modern life for women. Lots to dig into and think about, while being very readable. Lots of good authors coming out of NZ at the moment.
You know that thing that happens when you are buying a present, and you accidentally buy yourself a present too? It happened to me recently. Be careful out there.
Daisy judges you.
This book is so good so far
Wow. This was properly epic. Genuinely horrifying in parts, but so compelling. Real life events mixed with supernatural elements. I've not read anything quite like this before.
Last week me must have known that today me would have a rubbish day at work, so she arranged for some book mail to arrive today. Isn't she clever? I also love how these books look together - very soothing shades.
My reading view for the next few days.
I loved this one. It's about a Maori-Russian-Catalan extended family in Auckland, and I just loved all the characters and how they interacted with each other with love. This needs to a TV show so I can have more. I'll also accept a sequel.
I'm only allowing myself one book purchase* in NZ because they are so blooming expensive. But this NZ book sounds great, and looks like it has some lovely reviews on Litsy.
(*Unless I really really want another one)
Apparently it was a 'buying a food-related memoir' kind of a day
Getting soaked in Bronte country today. It was very pretty, and very wet.
Happy Christmas! I'm only 30 pages in, but in loving this.
What more does one need than a good book and a judgmental look from a spoiled dog?
I might have to give up on Megan Abbott altogether. I've not finished this yet, but I'm finding it almost unbearably grim. It's hard to explain, but she does dread and ickiness so so well, that I can hardly stand it. I think it's probably testament to her writing skill to evoke that, but do I want to subject myself to it? I found "The Turnout" similarly unsettling and off-putting. I loved some of her earlier books though.
I've had 3 cocktails and it's 25 mins until my train. What could go wrong?
Train reading. I'm three quarters of the way through, and officially have no clue what's going on in this. I'm hoping I'm supposed to have no clue what is real at this point in the book. 🤷♀️
I really liked this and flew through it. She really captured something about the university experience and being that age. But it also has a propulsive plot, and relationships you get invested in. It's mostly set in Cork at the time of the recession, but from the perspective of Rachel years later. Great read.
Hairdresser reading, with the dog. Yes, Daisy has come to my hairdressers and had lots of fuss.
Lovely evening listening to Naomi Alderman discuss her new book, among other things. Really excited to read this one.
First book tree of the season 🎄
I love when one book brings you to another. Collapse has a chapter on the Greenland Norse (the book is about why societies fail or survive), and then I realized Cold Earth is about archaeologists in a Viking settlement in Greenland. So I had to bump it up the list. Both books from my shelves, and Collapse was sent to me on an early book swap here - apologies I can't remember who sent it, but thank you.
Trying this thing called "reading books I already own". It's quite unusual.
Attempting some Halloween spooky reading. It's actually kind of cool reading this after being in Svalbard this year, which is where this book is set.
Last night in Warsaw and so I've taken myself on a book date. Been working straight through the weekend, and so having a little treat.
Why are the geese so sad? I need to know. This was in a Polish bookshop, and Google tells me it's "Little orphan Mary and the gnomes".
Getting psyched for the new season of For All Mankind by reading this book.
Look at me, reading a book that's been on my shelf for at least 6 years. All the gold stars for me.
Charity shop haul. Very pleased with this. Especially the illustrated Drawing. Plus Tom Gordon is one of the ones I've not read yet.
Bonus day of reading in the sun. Not sure this has ever happened in October before. Very odd.
Hanging out with a soggy dog who went for a snorkel in the river. And Holly.
Since I have both @julesG 's copy, and the one I decided to buy for myself at the last moment, I can show you all the front and the back at the same time. Or is it the front and the front?
Got my blind date book for #gladstonerds with some help from the very excited booksellers. They loved helping me find something. @jenniferw88 @Leniverse @squirrelbrain @Susanita @TrishB @rockpools @RaeLovesToRead @scripturient @julesG @CGainor3
Turned my trip to pick up your book @julesg into a treat yoself morning. And @Leniverse influenced me to pick up this SK book that's been on my Kindle forever. I think I have about 20 SK books left to read from his back catalogue, so that'll be a fun project for next couple of years.
Bookmail! The top one - I loved The Book of Lost Things, so I'm equal parts looking forward to this one and scared it won't be as good.
I do appreciate that the covers match despite being years between publications.
Superb. I can't recommend this enough. I learned so much from it.
My niece is loving The Worst Witch, and I found this full set for her at the charity shop today. My sister and I loved these too.
New reading buddy 🦋
My book haul today (plus Julia and the Shark and a picture book for my nieces). @trishb @squirrelbrain
Thank you for a lovely day out and a fabulous bookshop crawl @TrishB and @squirrelbrain ♥️
