The Wishing Bridge: A Sparkling Christmas Novel | Viola Shipman
8 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
With unabashed winter charm, The Wishing Bridge sparkles with the humor and heart fans of Kristy Woodson Harvey, Nancy Thayer and Jenny Colgan love most. Once the hottest mergers and acquisitions executive in the company, Henrietta Wegner can see the ambitious and impossibly young up-and-comers gunning for her job. When Henris boss makes it clear shell be starting the New Year unemployed unless she can close a big deal before the holidays, Henri impulsively tells him that she can convince her aging parents to sell Wegnerstheir iconic Frankenmuth, Michigan, Christmas storeto a massive, soulless corporation. Its the kind of deal cool, corporate Henri has built her career on. Home for the holidays has typically meant a perfunctory twenty-four-hour visit for Henri, then back to Detroit as fast as her car will drive her. So turning up at the Wegners offices in early December raises some eyebrows: from her delighted, if puzzled, parents to her suspicious brother and curious childhood friends. But as Henri fields impatient texts from her boss while reconnecting with the magic of the store and warmth of her hometown, what sounded great in the boardroom begins to lose its luster in real life. Shes running out of time to pull the trigger on what could be the greatest success of her careeror the most awkward family holiday of her life. Includes the bonus novella Christmas Angels

Ahh, This book will warm even Scrooge and the Grinches heart! This story will run you through the gamut of emotions from empathy to shock, anger to sadness, frustration to happiness. You will cry tears of sadness and tears of joy. Can an old-fashioned family run an old-fashioned family business in this new modern-day world?
Can you run from the past towards your future and still go back again? Can you forgive? The key may be (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy in learning to forgive; yourself and others, without forgetting your past, but by embracing it. And only then will you be able to move forward... Charming & heartwarming! 4mo

Big city girl returns to small hometown trope, but a bit different. I loved every part of the book, even when characters made me angry. A perfect Christmas read (and it is way over the top Christmas!)

Will Henri really sell her family business to a huge corporation - the business her father created in their basement?

Henri was told by her boss that if she didn't come up with a big idea and deal by the end of the year, she was going to be fired.

After that threat, she thought of her family's business and headed home for Christmas for the first time in years.

A sweet read.
